Inspired slightly by a combination of the Malkovich games and the Sensei's WuRenGo games, I wondered if anyone would be interested in the following: Two "captains", somewhere 1d+ I guess, but reasonably matched to each other, responible for making the moves, BUT... There are three weaker players in each team, maybe 4k-10k or something, who have to nominate their move, and why. When the captain picks the move, he has to discuss his opinion of the pros/cons of each of three moves, and can only pick one of the three suggested. Play then moves to the other team, and it repeats. The captains do not nominate a move, just pick one nominated by the rest of the team. To keep the game moving, any member can suggest sequences / josekis etc that are behind their thoughts, and provided the game continues along the relevant line each subsequent move can be assumed to be their given nomination unless they say otherwise. So, 1) Does this all make sense? 2) Does this sound feasible and interesting? 3) If I volunteer to start as a team captain, would anyone else like to step up, either as a captain or a team player? |

Assuming that you plan on being one captain, I might be interested in being the other. ( It would have to start after October 15th ) We tried this on SL, there were problems with scheduling. But not insoluble problems. |

If I don't fall into the dead zone between captain and soldier, I'd love to play this game. =D Also, to move things along, if a soldier suggests the exact move the captain wants, I think the captain should be able to go ahead and accept it, instead of waiting. |

Sounds cool, if there are any members around 3-4 dan or stronger willing to be captain, then I'll be a soldier for sure! If not, I'll just have to hang around and observe I suppose . |

We now have four people around the 1d range. We need stronger players for captains. Araban? Violence? Herman? Mitsun? Shapenaji? |

I'd be interested in being a soldier too. |

This seems like it would be fun (and require little work), so I'm interested. |

I have an interesting variation on this: let the weakest player be captain. Then the soldiers would have to be able to explain clearly why their move was better. |

Joaz Banbeck wrote: I have an interesting variation on this: let the weakest player be captain. Then the soldiers would have to be able to explain clearly why their move was better. I'm slightly against this idea, at least for the pilot, because I think it makes things too abbreviated, and takes the focus slightly off instructional content and into "move salespitching" - at least in principle. I don't want a move to be chosen because of either a) it was "sold" better to the eyes of the weakest player, or b) it led to a game the weaker player thought he could handle better, as neither of these I think are necessarily condusive of thoroughly investigative go analysis. My idea is that all soldiers must not only propose a move, but must explain exactly what they are aiming for, and how their move will develop. The captain should then respond to each of the soldier's move suggestions and reasonings with his response, before picking one and explaining why he picked it. This way, all weak players give a full malkovich reason - I want each soldier to treat it as their 1 vs 1 Malkovich game! The captain then gives a proper response to each and then adds one of his own with the selected move. I think, particularly in the early stages of the game, this could become extremely useful material. It's definitely the most work intensive Malkovich design so far I think. |

Current players: topazg (1d) JoazBanbeck (1d) gaius (1d) quantumf (1d) jedo (2k) redundant (2k) Ben (3k) fwiffo (4k) Chew (4k) Jordus (9k) -- are you actually wanting in, I wasn't sure from your comment? |

I'm interested, esp. if the pace is not too quick (move/day or so). Also, one should have clear procedure for situations where a soldier/captain is not able to play for a period of time. |

I was expecting a move a week would be likely, and 2 a week hopeful I agree - I think captain's should be able to nominate a captain from one of the other three until his return, and the captain can continue with just two soldiers in the case of a soldier's absence. |

I'm not really attached to this idea. It seemed mildly amusing when I was half awake this morning. I'm all for doing it in Topazg's suggested manner. But what do we do with four 1Dans? Co-captains? |

Sounds really cool, but some possible issues: This is a LOT of work for the captains. Also, for each move in the game, we have to wait for FOUR people to post. This could take a while... |

Since we have ten+ people already, perhaps we should consider splitting this into two separate games? |
