One of the reasons I was happy with :b67: was that there was no longer any real existential pressure white could apply to the right side group. Followups were just points.

Ah true. There's no way you could have reduced me at the bottom the way you did if I had held on to the three stones.

In other news, just got back from vegas. And I wish I didn't have to leave.

Also I don't really know the follow ups after a cap.

These correspondence games are causing me unnecessary stress.

I've got a dead 18 stone dragon in one game.
And this other game feels like it's going to be really hard to find good moves soon.

Who else wants to join in for a game? :D

As you already know, it depends on both the local and global situations.

I'm back.
Played a few games.

This is a pretty good summary of how they've been going.

Not looking for reviews, just posting it for my reference.
There are many obvious mistakes.
This is what I get for never getting into tsumego.

The games are fun though. So this time I'll probably be back for awhile. :]

Other things.
Coming up with a pretty silly theory to turn tengen into a good move. Unfortunately I'm not strong enough to apply it because I can't count how many opening moves remain.
(But I also can't really tell when the opening ends after it's ended. So hah, that would make it even harder.)

:b63: There was some oblique strategy going on, earlier in the game, and I don't find it easy to comment on. Here I would be thinking about E9, first of all. Which is better, the splitting attack as played, or the large-scale attack to disconnect the white groups from the framework below? Well, not a thing to decide on general principles. But Black really is not that strong on the right. The game is reasonably close, though I guess White is ahead. So Black can't yet prove a need to kill anything big.

:b83: Twenty plays on, Black is looking for a dramatic result.

:b99: At L14 could certainly get tricky, with the bad shape on the upper side.

Black 113: back in the game.

Black 153: having made a mistake on the right, Black kills another group.

Black 163: the cut at R8 really should "work" but Black above has very few liberties.

White 190: endgame starts but this gote when the first line keeps sente. Black 195 is an obvious mistake.

White 222: game over.

Black's fighting plan for the middlegame is kind of how it is supposed to work: the rolling, multiple-phase attack.

There seem to be some options at :b53: (could be J17), :b55: (could be E6 motare), :b57: which I like as shape in the centre, but led to the shape weakness on the upper side, which led to the ko ... as well as :b63:. Both players fought quite well.

213 @ E15 seems to be good enough to win? C16 just sort of drops a liberty, and you want to come back at E15 anyway - E15 @ 215 seems to work too

Three alternative choices late in the game...
First, @141
Black 1 below saves everything and also fixes Black's liberty problem so now Black threatens to play 'b' in the corner with 'c' in reserve...

Black thought for over a minute before playing 163 at 2 below. However 1-5 are pretty straight forward with Black winning the fight 3 liberties to 2.

I hadn't given much thought to the E9 strategy. Because there wasn't an obvious way to attack the F2 group.
The only other option I saw besides creating two weak groups here was try to lure R9 out.

Although looking now maybe E9 would have made F2 weak enough to give me K3 for free and live on the bottom.
But to think about that I would have needed to be counting.

At 99 I figured killing wasn't happening, but I might as well strengthen my connection and get a free ko threat.

I actually considered J17 but figured I wanted to play L13 to make my group strong enough. But I think my logic was faulty because I was stronger before white got to play L15.

If I were to take J17, I would atari at L15 first right?

I don't understand E6 at all.
I can't see a good result.

It's still not obvious to me. It's taking me five minutes to try and read this in my head. And I'm pretty sure I know which reading mistakes I made. But thanks for reminding me to look back at this part.

I couldn't find 5. I don't think I would have if you didn't show me.
Maybe if I make a habit of counting liberties I won't miss obvious things like this.

That feeling when you lay down a sneaky sneaky trap to win the game by 2 points.

That opposite feeling when every player on ogs is wrecking you.

https://badukmovies.com/episodes/a-peek ... the-corner

this seems cool. very useful. i'm going to try it in the wrong position just to accelerate the learning.

https://badukmovies.com/episodes/the-kn ... e-princess

been using this joseki for about a month. now I have a resource for reference

https://badukmovies.com/episodes/shimari-probe

I think this is pretty important for sdk to be aware of.
I only barely know the easiest variation and kind of guess when my opponent doesn't let me live in the corner.

https://badukmovies.com/episodes/a-perfect-base

This is good for those people who wonder how to attack a 2 space base. If you can attack the perfect base surely you can attack a less perfect base that is missing the keima.

A lot of these things I didn't know, or I was using wrong.

And I guess in spirit of the trick play thread.

https://badukmovies.com/episodes/a-tric ... -drawbacks

I don't use the 5-4 stone but I guess this could be useful if my approach is tenuki'd

I was glad watching the video that I could find the punishing move by black. But I didn't see the extend. I guess I really need to remember to think about extending before sacrifice, because i might not have to sacrifice.

I pulled it off. It was pretty similar situation as the video except I messed up. And then I messed up some more later on in the game. basic kyu game.

In your top right trick play, I don't believe black has the ladder.

Also, josekipedia suggests the following there;

One more of me losing, I think i found the right mistakes.

I saw W56 coming I just didn't think of how good the variation was for me.

Uh I should have lost this game.
:b51: I leaned the wrong way. The shoulder hit should be obvious.
:b57: There was no reason to cut so soon. I didn't see H2 so I thought I would get sente. Another pretty obvious blind spot.
:b67: Then again I don't see the self atari
:b81: is urgent before big the hint should have been that Q5 stones weren't that big alone.

I got lucky at w150 my opponent complicates.
I think I'll stop playing this same joseki now haha. It didn't really feel like it fit the board this game.

I've found the holy grail.

No more fearing the 3 space jump.
The rest of the video is pretty good too.
