I have decided to test the waters in my local area to determine just how many Go players there are in Norfolk, Virginia. As such, I have decided to host an event at Northside Park in Norfolk. The purpose of this is to generate interest in people who have never played before, and maybe even some who have. Because my area has such little to offer for a Go player, I'm hoping to take the initiative and get something going here.

The event date is October 1-October 3. The time will be announced once I have seen how many people are going to be showing up.

My main question is: Are there any strong players willing to attend to help me out? (Those who live in my area, of course.) I'm only a 16 Kyu level player, so there's only so much I can do.

While I live down in NC and can't assist, you might try to contact this group:
http://promotego.org/locations/hampton- ... enthusists

The yahoo groups link doesn't seem to work any more, but you might try to email her.

Also, try setting up on igolocal.net, and looking around to see if you can find other players near there. AGA lists the Hampton Roads Asian Entertainment Enthusiasts as well, so at some point they at least became a part of the AGA.

Hope that helped some.

I've actually been to that site. It's dead lately, though. There was a time when there were one or two semi-active players, but not anymore. I guess my best option would be to relocate to New York! :P
