it's really interesting for me to watch Myungwan's commentaries and weiqitv's, because it shows the different kind of thinking and evaluation between Chinese and Korean pros really clearly.

Often times I see myungwan get surprised by a move (usually played by a Chinese player), and weiqitv guys are like, oh, he'll probably play there, but then I see weiqitv guys get surprised by a move (usually by a korean player) and Myungwan would be like "oh, that's pretty normal", etc.

Also, in unrelated news, Ke Jie is having a rematch against Chen yaoye in the ahantongshan cup (agon cup in china) today... and Kiss88 (Ke Jie's tygem account) bet 2,000,000,000 points on himself, which I find pretty funny :D

from the pro commentaries I've seen (from weiqitv and sina), they think that black was slightly better after the white sacrifice, so at move 60. But Meng Tailing says black doesn't really know what to do with move 61 either, since a simple split on the bottom side doesn't look that great either, so maybe white isn't behind after all.

Sina says move 61 was really bad direction, but doesn't say what the proper direction is.

Then Meng Tailing says move 77 is the losing move. If he played the obvious move 1 lower, it would've been a very close match (but maybe white is slightly better). But after the sequences from 77-84, black lost a lot. And then move 85 was really bad, the extend upwards is the only move (although black would still be behind).

Thanks for posting this.

AGA commentary has already started, looks like they meant midnight PDT not PST.

seems like black was leading the whole time, but played too safe and the game became close, but it was still a very close game, then suddenly, black played a failed timesuji and game was over...

Fan Tingyu vs Cho U next game if I'm not wrong

No 8d korean ama would be able to have a 55 win and 8 loss record against TOP chinese and korean pros.

On tygem, you need to type in the (P) when searching their name, so you should be searching Kiss88(P), not Kiss88

What was the judgement about the first corner fight, it seems to me Cho U was obsessed with cutting on dame but then sacrificed the cutting stones... Fan Tingyu's solid style seems to be adept at dodging such manoeuvres.

the weiqitv commentators basically criticized every move black made in that corner, and after the 5 stones died, peng quan says if he was black, he would be thinking of resigning, since both he and cho U are no longer that young, so there's no way they can have an advantage in the second half of the game.

http://eidogo.com/#3qSbBcZOd

And what I found really interesting was that Peng Quan said D10 is a mistake; he thinks b should've played the 1 space jump at C11 or D11. It feels really cramped, a mere one space jump from 3 stones, but because of the B12 weakness, it's better to just fix it completely. With a 2 space jump, white can do what he did in the game. If black protects again, then it's obviously not efficient because you're using 2 moves to make a 2 space jump.

If black wanted to do a 2 space jump, he has to follow up again, with something like C7. That gives black a decent amount of territory on the left, and the top group isnt really in any danger. So Peng quan thinks D10 is a mistake, then after d10, J13 was a mistake.

I think that opening is not good for black, and when Ichiriki grew the centre and offered Lee to make an even bigger lower right corner in exchange for a monster centre but he declined with that attachment on the left hoshi it looked hard for Lee. He made nice use of the aji to reduce the centre though, but not enough. A nice win for Ichiriki and Japan: goratings.org put his (#83, 3332) chances vs Lee (#4, 3543) at 23%. He started with 3 wins last year, but that was not against top opposition like Lee; next up Fan Tingyu (#29 3437, 35%).

I await by78 telling us how weak and overrated Japanese players are...

LOL, already two Japanese players got knocked out in quick succession. Just about what I expected.

a partial and rough translation of some of the sina news article

...
Cho U played a non standard opening from move 3, hoping to lead Fan into an unfamiliar opening. In the opening fight in the top left corner, Fan's made a poking move at black's vital point. Cho couldn't endure the teasing by this combination and simply sacrificed the 5 vital stones. But the resulting exchange was clearly bad for black.

In the middlegame, Cho's sabaki, made a living group in the bottom right corner, but black's outside was too thin and didn't profit overall. At the bottom black once again applied power, but Fan's "tai chi exercises" dissolved it all. Fan took sente to connect the 4 stones at the top, and after the middlegame, Cho was far far behind.

Under advantageous circumstances, Fan started an unnecessary ko on the right, and the exchange shrunk his lead. But Fan's white was still leading by territory on the board (without komi). Fan wasn't even satisfied with a peaceful win, and flung a 2-step ko at the bottom right. With his ko threat advantage, he forced Cho to give up 4 stones at the top. Cho saw the gap was extreme, and resigned.

...the next 4 games are 25-29 November, Korean are sending out Kang ...

Fan Tingyu beat Kang Dongyoon. Seems like Kang got annoyed with Fan living everywhere and he tried to kill a double ponnuki but unsurprisingly that didn't succeed.
