I purchased this goban at a local store which has hundreds of them for $500, discounted because I'm local. Many of the fine Gobans on eBay are sold by this dealer here in Portland.

I'm wondering if you can tell me what kind of wood it is, and possibly how old it is.

Pics attached.

I don't have much knowledge of woods, I'm just here saying that those images are huge, and stretch the thread layout. You could use hide tags to avoid that.

Yes, you can, and I did it for you.
Click the "Place inline" button for each attached photo, then use the Hide tags.

Based on having owned two of these, I'd say it Looks like Korean agathis. The holes for the legs are not very well crafted and the pyramid is coarse, typical of Korean knockoffs. Agathis is sometimes painted over and on the edges with a dark wash that helps bring out what little grain there is. The lines and hoshi are hand-drawn. Are the lines more brown than black? Another clue to Korean origin. That's not to say there's anything wrong with the board. Enjoy it, play on it, impress your friends.

I'd say it is not. If the boards are made in Korea, there should be a signature or a stamp on the back side of the board, usually from the two famous goban makers, 6 Brotheres and Hanil.

That presumes a higher quality than I see in the photo. There are many knockoff producers. None of the Korean boards I have owned were identified in any way. The only way I know they were of Korean origin was testimony of the previous owners. The could have been lying.
