Not related to Sumire per se but I noticed that I can't see many of the sgf posted on the forum these days, including those in this thread. Am I the only one?

This was an unofficial game in the Japanese National Go Team Study Group. She lost to Takao Shinji 9-dan in the same event.

Sumire is a new addition to the squad, along with Ueno Risa. They (like 18-year-old I Ryo) are in the trainee section. Takao is one of the coaches.

There are 19 men in a main squad, including the likes of Iyama, Cho U and Hane Naoki. There are five women, headed by Fujisawa Rina and Xie Yimin in a female squad. The mixed-gender trainee group now has 18 players serviced by six coaches. Takao is the Manager and Cho U the head coach. They are also in the main squad but not all the other coaches are.

They try to play or meet weekly.

Yawn. This is quickly getting rather boring. What's her favorite flavor of icecream? Does she prefer to go potty in the morning or at night? What's her blood type and favorite color?

OR maybe she should take a handicap of two or three stones against other professionals, just to make her games more competitive and this thread more interesting to follow.

On a tangentially related topic, I wonder if Japan will do away with Insei league entirely. At this point, it might as well handout shodan certificates to winners of child pageants.

At move 100 she has 25% winrate according to LZ157. She may not be pro level yet, but her performance is not ridiculous. It is not absurd to hope that whe will become competitive in 2021 or so.

I'm still rooting for Sumire despite what naysayers say about her. I think she is a bit of a victim to her own popularity: they might have given her good, high profile opponents who definitely didn't want the shame of losing to a 10-year old.

And Sumire might be a bit too desperate to win. I believe that she will do better once the spotlight moves off her

Are you sure that's because of her? I browsed the site in March and that was already on offer, and looked like it was a remmant. Sumire, after all, is simply "Violet", I believe.

On Saturday I went to the Nihon Ki'in as usual and what awaited me inside the front door?

It really annoyed me that this is apparently the Nihon Ki'in view of the current state of Japanese Go - Iyama and... a ten-year-old child who hasn't won a game yet?!! So much for its 95 years of effort.
