The meaning of A was do defend Whites corner, while also putting some pressure on Blacks split. Blacks two "weak groups" are not as weak as they should be, White has two weird looking corner formations plus a group which has good shape, but is also quite floating and not taking any points. And now Black gets to even come back and return to the corner in the upper left.

Maybe B would have been the better choice here.]LB[cf:A][dd:B]SQ[ir][jr][kr][mq][nr][qg][qj]TR[oq][pd][pp][qe][qn]

I would be a little concerned about my corner in this situation though, so probably play A first (which secures the corner and also helps to invade Blacks formations later, or at least scoop out some points in endgame).]LB[ec:B][el:C][rp:A]TR[qj]

Kicking at B would give Black a perfect shape, so I did not really consider it here.

Backing of to C did not see like a good idea either, considering the attachment coming in.]LB[nc:C][qe:B][qh:A]
