;B[pe]BL[1495.739]C[Mistakes in this game seemed to come from the opening.

The biggest thing I noticed: you didn't spend as much time on your moves as you could have. By the end of the game you have used only 3 minutes and 50 seconds. I sometimes think that long about a single opening move. Don't let your opponent's pace dictate the game. Think about your moves. Pros usually spend most of their thinking time in the opening because that dictates how the rest of the game will go. For a 25 minute game if you spend 10 minutes thinking about your first 30-40 moves you are moving at a good pace.

So look at your opponent's first move and think about what it says. For example: this is a 5-4. Your opponent likely wants to play for outside influence and wants to build frameworks. So you should know that playing a 3-3 stone would probably be bad as that will give them the chance to press it down and play for a framework.]

;W[dd]WL[1495.529]
;B[pc]BL[1485.147]TR[pp]C[Your opponent transitioned from an influence oriented 5-4 stone into an enclosure. So why did they play the 5-4 in the first place? Likely their purpose was to prevent you from playing a star point stone across from the 3-4 at the triangled position. Why? Because they wanted to get this enclosure here without giving you a chance to approach.]
;W[jd]WL[1492.794]TR[jc]SQ[lc]C[In principle this move is good. Your opponent's enclosure is facing the top. However, being high has some disadvantages. Namely, it can be undercut by a 3rd line stone at M17. Consider playing it low next time.]
(;B[jp]BL[1480.449]C[This is not the side black would normally want to play on. The left and right are both more important.]
(;W[pj]WL[1488.727]C[This is the right idea. If black got another stone here his framework would be considerable. Again, however, it is high. Especially in invasion/splitting situations like this we want to play low so we can make a base.]
;B[dj]BL[1477.817]TR[cj]C[I suppose black just had to finish off the star points... This move is okay. It splits up white. Low would almost certainly be better.]
;W[qn]WL[1484.443]
;B[pn]BL[1466.63]C[I could go on and on about this move. Three words "Special Purpose Only." Do not get in the habit of attaching to weak stones like this. It is okay in this situation - just barely okay, because black has the star point stone at K4, but I think white should get a better result.]
;W[pm]WL[1482.269]
;B[on]BL[1465.036]TR[on][pn][qo][pp]C[Notice how these stones are threatening to make really good shape for black. I call this one the "J" shape because it looks like a "J". The "J" Shape is fantastic. Make it for yourself and stop your opponent from making it.]

;B[qo]BL[1463.06]C[And black plays the correct punishment.]
;W[rn]WL[1477.113]C[This move is too slow. As a general rule avoid 1st and 2nd line moves in the opening unless you have a good reason.]
;B[qh]BL[1460.553]C[Now black has taken the key point to undercut you.]

I know you want to build the top, but as a general rule, when you have an enclosure (small or large knight or one space jump) block to split your opponent and drive them toward your stone.

Do not do this. ]

Because of the mistake in the bottom right joseki white has little aji to exploit in that position. The top right is also fairly solid, if undercut. The top left is fairly solid as well. It seems like white's only hope is to use the thickness in the bottom left that black gave him.]
(;W[pb]WL[1368.045]C[This attachment is not a bad attempt at an invasion, but I think you should try something on the bottom first to see if you can get any more points. Simply reducing via a successful invasion is not big enough here.]
