I don't like this move.  It does put pressure on R12, but it does very little for the top side, which is still wide open.

I think it's a bit too slow to play, but I also considered R8, solidifying white's stone and asking black what he wants to do.  I think, though, black would just ruin the top side and come back to use the aji of R12 later.]
