I realized that I hadn't seriously replied to this thread, yet. Awhile back, I played a game against Diana Koszegi. I had a large handicap, so the game was going alright. It was getting toward the end of the game, and I had felt that I had already won, when she played the marked move.

At this point, I totally freaked out, and killed myself:

A few years back, playing a strong (4D, maybe?) at our local club. He and I had played a couple times on 6 stones -- I was always crushed. Anyway, in this one game (complete with a couple beers), I thought I had something going. A real attack on his stones! Holy crap, I can capture those! So I play my move, and start removing a small number of white stones, until he says "Hay, what are you doing?" and I realized the group I was removing still had a liberty.

I didn't mind doing that back in my DDK days but as an SDK? And to do that against a very strong player who was so kind to offer a friendly game... all I could do was to mumble something about "next round's on me!"

And, of course, without capturing that group, black lost miserably.

My most embarrassing moment - reading Araban's post and having to sit here for 5 minutes until I figured out why it wasn't worth points...

I still don't get it. Mind explaining?

it isn't worth points because black gets +5 points for the stones, but white gets +4 points because there a four fewer white stones in her territory, and +1 point because there is 1 more dead black stone, so the net change in score is +0

You should just count it.

It's easiest to see under area scoring: the stones you play in your own territory don't cost you points, and prisoners don't count. Nothing changes when Black captures and white plays at C19.

Under territory: Black gets five points for prisoners. White gets four points for spaces that are no longer occupied by his own stones. White also gets one point for the extra black prisoner. Nothing changes.

The following game I played last year, against another 4d. In itself, it is quite a terrible game by me. But the real embarrassment, for both of us, is at the end of the game record.

The last move in this game record is O15.

My opponent somehow thought that this moved kills my group. Not so, I can live by playing O16.

I, however thought that I had miai options of O16 and N18 to live. Not true either.

So, I tenuki and start playing endgame (not in the game record), because hey, I'm alive right? And my opponent also starts playing endgame, because hey, it's dead right?

We must've played endgame for over 50 moves, and all the while, the audience is utterly confused on why neither of us plays in the upper right any more. Why are we playing small endgame when there is a huge unsettled group like that?

Then finally, when we're down to moves smaller than 5 points, my opponent decides to play P15 "just to remove aji", and accidentally kills my group.

Not my brightest moment

Heh, Reminds me of a terrible game I played not too long ago one morning on KGS. It was still really early in the game, but my opponent was efficiently attacking, invading and killing every single formation I had begun to create on the board. Finally he started to ladder one of my moves. I thought he read it wrong, and did the ladder halfway across the board until I realized, he hadn't. He said, "Read much?" or something snarky like that. I could only apologize and resign. I don't play morning games since then, not without testing my alertness by playing Gnu Go first.
