Hi all! Being Korean I've watched many entertaining and unique Korean baduk videos on Youtube.

I'd like to share some Go Variant videos from a Korean BadukTV channel with you, because they are great and I know there are not many videos in English. They involve strong pros and high amateurs playing baduk variations.

If you have any questions (like "Who won?"), you can ask me here. If you see anything interesting, talk about it!

=============================

Special Baduk Ideas Series
This series asks interesting questions such as:

Which brain hemispheres are active during a game of baduk? What does the pulse look like in a game?
- Park Byung-Gyu (5p) vs. Baek Dae-Hyeon (6p)
(Key: Left Brain, Right Brain, Pulse)

If Professionals played with 3H or 4H, how much Komi would compensate White?
First one person sets what he thinks is an appropriate Komi, then the other player decides whether he wants Black or White.
- Choi Cheol-han (9p, 3H) vs. Park Yeong-hun (9p, 26.5 Komi)
- Song Tae-Gon (8p, 4H) vs. Kang Dong-Yeun (5p, 43.5 Komi)

What if you started with a preset fuseki "map"? (in the spirit of StarCraft LOL)
They play a game of SC first, and then play baduk.
- Go Keun-Tae (5p, Zerg) vs. Hong Sung-Ji (5p, Terran)

=============================

BadukTV Special
This series contains many baduk variations played between pros of various strength.

Blind for the first 100 moves:
- Kang Seung-Min (White 3p) vs. Kim Jiseok (Black 9p)
- Kang Ji-Sung (White 5p) vs. Ahn Young-gil (Black 4p) (GoGameGuru!)
- Han Jeong-Jin (White 4p) vs. Choi Cheolhan (Black 4p)
- Choi Cheol-Han (White 4p) vs. Kang Ji-Sung (Black 4p)
1 free chance to look at board. If you permanently take your blindfold off, lose 5 points and 1 point for each subsequent move until 100 moves

Three chances to play twice in a row:
- Im Dong-Kyun (White Ama7d) vs. Kim Dong-Sup (Ama7d)

Only Green Stones, One-Color Baduk:
- Ahn Dal-Hoon (White 5p) vs. Lee Hyun-Uk (Black 4p)
- Yoon Jun-Sang (White 1p) vs. Heo Yeong-Ho (Black 1p)
- Lee Hyun-Uk (White 4p) vs. Heo Yeong-Ho (Black 1p)
Only Black Stones, One-Color Baduk:
- Kim Yeong-Hwan (White 7p) vs. Kim Chan-Woo (Black 3p)

All-Kill - Don't let White Live! 17 Handicap:
- Ha Seong-Bong (White Ama7d) vs. Hong Malgeunsaem (Black Ama7d)
- Park Ji-Eun (White 3p) vs. Rui Naiwei (Black 9p)
- Choi Cheol-Han (White 4p) vs. Seo Neung-Uk (Black 9p)
- Sveta (White 1p) vs. Kim Sun-Mi (Black 1p)

Sunjang Baduk - Preset Fuseki, Leads to lots of fighting
- Kim Sung-Ryeong (White 7p) vs. Baek Dae-Hyeon (Black 5p)
- Yoo Chang Hyuk (White 9p) vs. Seo Bong-Soo (Black 9p)

King's Order Baduk - Three chances to order other player to play somewhere
- Cho Han-Seung (White 5p) vs. Park Jeong-Sang (Black 3p)
- Kim Chul-Joong (White 2p) vs. Kim Yeong-Hwan (Black 6p)
- Kim Chul-Joong (White 2p) vs. Park Jeong-Sang (Black 3p)
King's Order Baduk 2 - Black gets 11H, White gets two orders, Komi 6.5
- Park Jeong-Sang (White 3p) vs. Cho Han-Seung (Black 5p)

Handicap Greed - Each play once as Black in 3H, 10sec Blitz, whoever has highest combined score wins
- Kim Chul-Joong (White 2p) vs. Rui Naiwei (Black 9p)
- Song Tae-Gon (White 3p) vs. Park Ji-Eun (Black 3p)
- Song Tae-Gon (White 3p) vs. Kim Chul-Joong (Black 2p)

International Rengo
- Joo-Uh Wang 6d and Julio Martinez 3d (White) vs. Woorvan Alexandra Esther 5d and Thomas Daniel 4d (Black)

"Soul Baduk", Against Blind Player
- Yoon Hyeon-Seok (White 7p) vs. Song Joong-Taek (Black Ama5d, 3H)
Pro plays blind for 70 moves, against Blind Ama5d
- Mok Jin-Seok (White 6p) vs. Song Joong-Taek (Black Ama5d, 3H)

=============================

Cho Hun Hyun Handicap Go Series
A playlist of "courtesy" games that Cho Hunhyun played against amateurs who play baduk. It's basically him going around to people who are doing good things in the world (businessmen, congressmen) and interviewing them, and then he plays a game with them.

Very fun to watch. Cho HunHyun plays gently, and lightly.

He gives a 6k amateur six stones, and a 6d amateur 3 stones, so its very likely he is going very easy on them so that they can play and enjoyable and not too embarassing game.

=============================

Other Pro vs. Amateur
A playlist I'll keep updating as I find more. Currently in the list (May 21, 2014):
- Cho Hye-Yeon (9p) vs. Won Yoo-chul (Amateur, Government Worker) 3-stone handicap

=============================

I'll keep updating this if I find more. Meanwhile, Enjoy!

What I find most interesting is that pros find one "King's Order" to be worth about 5.5 handicap stones, judging by the fact that they gave black 11 handicap stones to counteract an evenly-matched player's 2 orders.

That's way, way more than I would have guessed. It's not like you can choose their next move for them, right? You can only force them to choose a different one.

Two eyes to kill; Three eyes to live. I guess you could kill some very large groups by being able to choose their next move, i.e. killing themselves in gote.

It might be fun to know that in the Blind game with Kim Jiseok 8p, when he opens his blindfold after 100 moves he says, "yes... that is pretty much what I remember except for a few stones in the center". :D

Great Post!

I look forward to looking at some of the games. I find the variations quite interesting. Have you heard of Dango? Playing GO with playing cards included? "Each player disposes of a set of cards, indicating a certain shape. Players take cards in turn and play the indicated shape, either subsequently or simultaneously (in which case groups with two eyes are not safe). Other than shapes, cards can also say "remove three stones of your opponent's" etcetera." quote from Sensei's Library.

I plan to try it one night at our GO club.
