- To add: losing against weaker players doesn't drop rank any more than losing to same level or stronger opponents, provided that handicaps (or komi) are set correctly.

one would think it is so, but actually it isn't. usual handicaps doesn't fully compensate the rank difference, so beating weaker players is easier, and rating and ranking systems take it into account. this oddity comes from using improper handicap system

PS: and another interesting proposed system, making game even just by changing the usual 0,5 komi to -5,5 in handicap games.
