Hilarious because: The 'office attire' and the presence of many large office plants in the background. And the casual 'let's play this at 120 degree angles from each other' pose.

There is an old, well-known picture. I have a copy somewhere but not in digital form. I think it was an add, maybe for Camel cigarette, and maybe in Life magazine. I found it hilarious.

Does anyone know which I mean and have a copy?

There's this rather nice reference in a High-brow vs Low-brow chart in a 1949 issue of Life magazine.

That's the one. I typed in "go advertisement camel" and it did not find it. I guess I should have used "baduk"

I don't know for sure what you're trying to convey, but it could easily be construed as an unfortunate stereotype.

He may know how to hold his stones but no go player would use the bowl lid to hold his cigarettes.

Look on the other side of the table, there’s his bowl lid. Must be some other thing his cigarettes are in/on.

Greetings, Tom

Oh! You're right. All I saw was something which looked like a bowl by his left hand, which is where I always put my bowl (I'm left-handed) and assumed that is what it was.

I remember when playing in a bar in the 1980's couple of times it happened that someone used our lid as ashtray.

Holding the stones like a pro.

Unfortunately they may as well use skittles - at least they are shaped like go stones.

Get past the abundance of leather volumes (undoubtedly containing the missing games of past go sages), and the hilarious poses, you'll notice that the board appears to be shaded towards the edges. A clue as to the split between territory and influence, perhaps?

This way if you are losing you can at least check your hair in the reflective go board...

Perhaps I am mistaken, but it appears to me that the Go board is transparent and the reflection is coming from the table.

Funny, though, but I don't see any particular joy on their faces. In fact, they don't even look like they are playing each other--maybe looking over a lost game?!

I'm curious as to where these boxes were sold and exactly what they contained.
