Post subject: | Augmented reality go |
A few months ago I came accross a nice project: ARGOTrainer. The idea is to use augmented reality in order to play go in a real goban but without a physical opponent, you may play games over the internet against someone, review a pro game or learn josekis. The idea is just awesome. Playing through KGS but with a real wooden goban would be great... to say the least. You'd better watch the video. The source is available on github.com. So you're free to go and build it up for yourself. Unfortunately, the final code wasn't completely polished and the release version doesn't work straight away, so it needs someone to actually compile it. I've invested there a few afternoons... with little to none success. So here I am, asking for the help of the merciful gods of programing + go who tend to lurk around here...... FIX IT!!!! I want to play in my board!!! |

Seriously? Noone thinks that playing on a real board over the internet would be awesome? I was even ready to ask for some sort of crowdfunding/hiring process here... |

Yes, seriously. My impression was that is was some young kid new to the game trying to do something with technology instead of really studying. There is no short cut for hard work and I wouldn't touch that at all. |

Totally missed this post first time around. I love the idea! ![]() But like RBerenguel I do not currently use Windows and have zero experience developing software for Windows, so I'm afraid I can't be of much help ![]() |

Yet, you manage to find him guilty of not studying go seriously. ![]() ![]() By the way, as he points out in github, it was a research project for his studies. So... I guess he WAS studying after all... RBerenguel : thank you. HermanHiddema: I love the idea too!!. Maybe I should change the initial post, it may be somewhat misleading... |

But you asked why no one had responded, so I gave a truthful answer. First impressions count for a lot and it did not impress me. My first reaction on seeing it really was "oh, not another of these tech things with flashing lights which everyone seems to like these day. Must be a newbie trying to impress." |

My first reaction on seeing it really was "oh, not another of these tech things with flashing lights which everyone seems to like these day. Must be a newbie trying to impress." Well then, we disagree on the utility of this gadget. I'm convinced there are hundreds, if not thousands, of people who can't play on a real board because they lack opponents. Unlike you, I'm one of these players who can't play on a real board. My last games on real board were in late february 2015, previous games on a real board were in may 2014. Both the demo and code were uploaded in 2013 and they weren't mentioned anywhere. I don't think he was trying to impress but rather to show the present state of this technology through the results of a research project. |

I would like to play on a real board but prefer both sides are putting down real stones. The augmented reality part isn't interesting to me. Get a robot arm that can handle stones well, and then I would strongly consider something. Of course, you can play today on a real board, but you have to put down stones for both and click away. ![]() |

DalekSnare wrote: I want something like this for the HoloLens. Well, this project proves that technology to do this is already available in the market. Back in 2013, actually... And yes, I'd like something like Hololens or "whatever"lens to include a software like this one ![]() |
