I know some people like absolute quiet while playing,

but I recently discovered that music helps me stay more focused and relaxed during a game.

Even when I'm losing, music helps me stay in good spirits!

Try it out if you haven't already : )

When solving tsumego, I tried this for the first time a few dozen hours ago. I'd imagine different sound patterns would have differing effects on the brain, but as with any other exercise, it was at the very least surprisingly doable and probably useful in this case.

I think this has been discussed before on another thread...

Online playing schedule: Every tenth February 29th from 20:00-20:01 (if time permits)
I know I am not the only would who likes to play Go while listening to Cage's 4'33" (on repeat, of course).

Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

Try some Goa music, i.e., https://www.boomfestival.org/boom2016/home/ . I find it very good when doing mental tasks like playing Go or programming.

blah alert ;-)
There is a very small percentage of the population of Go players who achieve true and complete silence:
As in kyuudou;

Ambient sound is something mostly external and often beyond our control to completely remove: silence is something which is internal and not dependant on external sound levels, but the mind which is affected by external sound levels.

We could say silence is completely within our control, as even our consious mind is usually not within our full control.
So the ultimate achievement in a game of Go is silence, where you could hear the messages within the opponent sitting across the board as clear lanes of information...

As in kyuudou :)
