On wbaduk right now I see a load of games broadcast, Israel vs Singapore, France vs Ukraine, Australia vs Hong Kong, with players like Ali Jabarin, Artem K, Tanguy, Zheng Hong (9p?) Anyone know what event this is? There is a Chinese game name I can't read nor copy to paste here.

I guess that would be the Jin Long Cheng Cup World Team Go Championship (Zhu Gang Cup).

I've seen announcements of this on the Dutch mailing list and website as well.

Basically a world team championship for 16 teams. China, Korea and Japan each sent 2 teams, Taiwan 1 team, and the remaining 9 spots are open for other countries (who would play a qualifier if more than 9 additional teams registered).

Here's what it says in Chinese:第2届金龙城杯世团赛资格赛第3轮 which I think means: the 3rd qualifying round of the 2nd gold Longcheng world cup. (Feel free to provide a better translation!)

This event is indeed the same as the Zhugang Cup held two years ago. It is financially supported by the same sponsor but they decide to name it differently. They promise to use the same name for at least three more editions. The main tournament accommodates 16 teams, including 2 teams each from Japan, Korea and China and 1 Taiwan team. The remaining 9 teams are decided through today's preliminary rounds (11 teams play three rounds and top 9 qualify).

From tomorrow, the 16 teams will play a five-round Swiss tournament. Top 4 will enter the semi-final. The semifinals and final will use a special format - three players of each team can discuss to decide how best to play. This format was tried two years ago but only in the final.

The tournament has a prize pool of 5,000,000 CNY ~ 770,000 USD. Top 4 teams will of course share most of the prize. However higher-ranking amateur teams will also be given small cash prizes.

Tomorrow's pairing is out. Strong teams won't face each other in round 1. One interesting game is Nie Weiping vs Zheng Hong (representing Australia now). Ke Jie's opponent is Artem Kachanovskyi. These two, along with several other games, will have life broadcast.

A side event this year will be the performance of Bao Yun, who will play blind Go against 5 players at the same time.
