Received an email today from the GTL:

With heavy hearts, we regret to inform you that we have made the difficult decision to shut down the active part of the GTL. We are no longer accepting new review requests, but the archive will remain online for everyone to enjoy. If you currently have a request in progress, don't worry -- it will be completed as normal.

The Go Teaching Ladder (http://gtl.xmp.net/) has been an excellent resource for reviewing games. I'm thankful for the service they provided us for such a long time.

With GTL down, I'd like to recommend gokibitz. The interface is pretty slick, and the feedback is generally quick.

I've heard good things about GTL, but haven't used it myself. Also, I have no vested interest in gokibitz, other than to see awesome tools in the community. :)

Interesting. I am a reviewer for them but received no such e-mail. There is also nothing on the home page.

The announcement was in the Weekly Newsletter email. Do you receive/read that?

Didn't even know that was such a thing. Maybe I opted out years ago and forgot about it. Was any reason given?

Same here. Thought it would be important enough to inform contributors, no?

The amount of reviews was down to 1999 levels and falling. So no public reviews anymore for me, I wish everyone else fun with slick interfaces though, none of the successors even have the functionality down. You can't even properly search through the reviews, can't get a review without registering ...

It's sad to see this go. The site was well done. I had fun doing some reviews and having some of my games reviewed, but I could tell that the traffic dropped off a lot.

Hi there,

just a short note: we will send out a last newsletter when we reach 10000 reviews. We will then also inform all our reviewers who are not on the newsletter.

regards,
/Arno

This was to be expected.

There's a time and place for everything.

Thanks Arno & friends, it's been a pleasure and an honor.

it's sad to know this. I was hoping I can jump back into the family of GTL and start reviewing or getting games reviewed soon.

@Arno:
That's a big loss to lose GTL free reviewing.

Couldn't somebody be found, that takes over the review "service"?
I mean, what's the reason for not continuing it? ... lack of personal resources / time? or perhaps less enthusiastic reviewers? ... I'm sure there are people willing to continue your work.
