Adapting Go to hexagonal boards is tricky. A direct translation, while possible, is not very interesting because of the lack of crosscuts. Keil came to me as a solution to this issue. By using a different definition of "connected", crosscuts are restored, and with them much of the tactical variety of Go, including ko. Keil is now playable, turn-based, on MindSports. There is also an interactive board where you can familiarize yourself with the rules. Attachment: Keil.png [ 81.73 KiB | Viewed 9996 times ] |

Intriguing. I am also interested in novel forms of Go. I made a hexagonal version with collaborative elements, practising how to connect well is useful for society more so than learning how to defeat others. Written in Julia: https://github.com/jhlq/Weilianqi.jl More recently I built a website for triangular Go with traditional rules, the rapid shortage of liberties makes for exciting situations. Play against an AI or online here: http://triangulargo.club/ I am currently in the planning stages for a Weilianqi website, if anyone wants to help betatest various rulesets please do get in touch, you can find my email on the trigo contacts page. |

What are the rules to Weilianqi? Is it a cooperative variant of Go? |

Yea, I wanted a game where you can play several people together of any skill level, this is achieved with a secondary score derived from multiplying all players territories: the optimal score is a draw! Wei-lian-qi means surround-connect-game, how can a hundred stones of three colors be placed to maximise contact surfaces? |

Keil looks interesting. Can I get a physical board anywhere? |
