Hi folks, I'm trying to contact chapters and clubs on the AGA list at http://usgo.org/chapters.php I have no email address for this one, and three times now the phone has rung unanswered. I figure the place might be defunct, or it might be a thriving non-English-speaking go paradise. Can some adventurous go player near NYC go check and report back, please? Here's the AGA listing for them: International Go Company Elmurst Seng Chang Hong 718-396-0483 Elmhurst 40-47 75th St. [second floor] Daily 11:30am-11:30pm NearRoosevelt Avenue-Jackson Heights subway stop I've got this as the Zip code: 11373 I think this Google Maps link should be right: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=40-47+75t ... 3&t=m&z=16 Thanks a bunch! |

i left NYC 3 years ago so it might not be accurate... but... club you are looking for is not ideal place for you. there are very few people there and it is mostly betting game. i suggest try one in flushing. there are plenty of people to play and better athmosphere. club name is Jaeil kiwon. located next to flushing high school. 35-06 Union St. #2F, Flushing, NY 11354 Map. I've been to that one in flushing. Everyone was nice, but a lot of gambling and smoking there... |

The Primary Go Club in NY right now is meetup.com/mostlygo The Nygocenter.org website has info on a few other places to play. I don't reccomend going to a korean club unless you want to gamble, and even then you should be at least 3kyu EDIT I see you are four kyu, it should be ok, but tell them you are 9kyu. |

Thanks for the tips, everyone. Just to be clear: I'm not looking for a go club where I can play. I am trying to find out if this particular club should still be on the AGA website list "where to play go." It sounds like this club was operating as recently as 3 years ago. Can anyone verify whether the club is still in operation now? |

Nope...nothing there. Just a law office. There are two go clubs in flushing btw, not just one. |

Thanks, wessanenoctupus! Edit: AGA has two clubs listed in Flushing: Korea Baduk, 36-18 Union Street NY Wei-chi, 35-30 Union Street (Though you have to go to their website to find the address. And I have a report that this one may not be meeting any longer -- but not sure if it's the same club, because the address was slightly different.) And Magicwand mentions another -- one that's not on the AGA list: Jaeil kiwon, 35-06 Union St. #2F I'll be happy to list it if someone from the club requests and will keep the listing updated -- they should send email to database@usgo.org to get it set up. |

"NY Wei-chi, 35-30" Unless this is something recent this doesnt exist. i believe this was a club that was there 15~20 years ago for and closed due to lack of customer. (i used to play there when they were active) |

I liked 36-18 Union Street pretty much. I was a little confused with the ranks (AGA, European, online, Korean) though. I tried to adapt to AGA, but maybe they have their own system. |

NY Wei Chi does not exist. I go to the Club Ja-il Kiwon relatively often (1x a week) though the majority of the people playing there don't know the AGA exists, could I request that it be listed? -- For what its worth the Ja-il Kiwon is a lot nicer than 36-18...its a lot less smokey, on the other hand 36-18 has a lot of refreshments. -Boris |
