Would this also be feasible as a means of financing an in-depth video course that covers
go theory (from introductory to intermediate or even advanced level)?

Something similar to this 36 hour course on biology by the teaching company in scope and depth (but
then about the topic of go instead of biology):

I really enjoy watching educational videos from the teaching company and I'd love to see
them create an extensive course on go.

Not knowing how the videos are like, I don't know whether their format would work with Go.

However, there is an obstacle in that there isn't a standard Go curriculum as there is for biology and other sciences.
A good Go teacher could make one, but its structure would not have universal support.

I don't know how they contact teachers, if they have their own or bring outside experts.
If they do usually bring outside experts, there are some popular Go teachers here and in KGS that you could contact. I would look into people who already do video lessons or similar, since they're probably more comfortable with the format.

The teaching company (aka The Great Courses) selects professors based on how popular they are among students.
I wonder if there are any professors that teach the game of go at university level, but if there are, there is
probably not many to choose from.

Go departments in universities, as you can find out, are relatively rare, and recent.

I don't think you would need a professor teaching Go as a college course, and would have some difficulty finding one that speaks english well.

I think a high amateur dan player would suffice. Teaching skill would be most important, as would be how well they do video lessons.
I would contact high amateur dan players (or above) that do video lessons or any other type of video broadcast.
If someone with ties to a Go university course would be needed, I think there was at least one western graduate of Myongji University's Baduk courses, but I don't remember enough detail now.

Is there any place other than Myongji?



I also think high amateur is more suitable. But that got me thinking about Europeans enrolled in Myongji. Most recent I heard is Daniela Trinks from Germany, I think she is still there. Diana Koszegi 1p is also Myongji graduate.

I think I remember something about China, but I'm not sure. Perhaps I shouldn't have left the plural.

It should be expected that the curriculum will be an evolving document, and I wouldn't worry in the slightest about getting a consensus before going forward. The first step would be to put together something reasonably plausible, and reasonably comprehensive, and send it out for comment. In the end, there will no doubt be several different versions.

My objective is a computer based, curriculum-based Go teaching program. It will have an explicit, time-sequenced curriculum covering a wide range of Go topics from 99 kyu to 1 dan, organized in a logical sequence. It should be on-line or downloadable, and should be interactive. Each lesson should consist of some visual training, followed by exercises related to the topics just covered. When the student has mastered the exercises sufficiently, the program advances to the next item in sequence in the pre-defined curriculum.

Do any of you know of a reasonably complete go curriculum, regardless of whether or not there's a consensus around it?
