Hi all, I have a question about white's last move in this game. I played the low three-space pincer because it was simultaneously a pincer and an extension from my top right corner, and white straight away slid to the 2-4 point. I would have expected the 3-3 invasion, the inside attachment, or a pincer from the other side. Is white's move joseki? I replied at 3-3, which was probably a mistake because white got the corner and I got a cramped position. What would be the best way to answer this unconventional move?

Just reply with 3-3. If your opponent wants to settle down, there is only space for a small extension which isn't very efficient. So the result is not bad for you. |

If you replied at 3-3, how could W get the corner AND you got a cramped position ?Neither was supposed to happen. ![]() - It's W who'll get a cramped position. As macelee said. - You reply at 3-3: It's B who has the corner, not W. - After your 3-3, B is free to get an extension better than joseki -- say, to N3 or N4 -- not the opposite (cramped for B). What were the actual sequence and resulting local position in your game ? |

As macelee and EdLee have said, your 3-3 reply was good. Here is an SGF file with a possible continuation. ![]() |

I can imagine white probably played something like 2, but I think 3 is fine (if aggressive). |
