The only book I've ever read that seems to look at this idea in any depth is The Direction of Play by Kajiwara Takeo. It discusses how to find the largest point on the board in the opening of the game based on which stones have already been played, which has everything to do with playing efficiently. I really liked the book, but it does only look at the opening (it actually ends by discussing an early mid-game position). It is more of an opening theory book, but if that is the kind of thing you are looking for then I would recommend it. |

it's hard not for a good go book to be about the efficiency of stones, since getting more out of your stones than your opponent does out of his is the main point of the game.  However, books about the opening are more likely to address efficiency directly than other books. |

Beyond Forcing Moves is about playing your stones in the best order to maximise their efficiency and reduce your opponent's. |
