It is the best go news from Japan for years. Can it be any more boring than one player winning everything?

Depends on one's POV.

People also get very excited when someone comes along once in a while and blows everyone else out of the water -- GoSeigen, Ali, Kasparov, etc. -- for a while.

If it's very difficult to dominate in Go or chess these days for an extended period of time, there are reasons for it. One could be that people can access information more quickly than possible before. For example, in the 1980's, Go pros in China had to wait for weeks, even over a month, just to read about the latest pro tourney game from Japan. Now we can watch it in real-time literally in the palm of our hand, or directly from our glasses. :)
