Fresh from Qipai.org.cn. Below are the top 150 pros with their change from the previous month. Shi Yue continues to hold down the number 1 slot, which has been the case since May 2014. Currently he is 34 rating points ahead of Ke Jie, who jumped back into the number two position after falling to sixth in December. To put that 34 points in perspective, there is also a 34-point gap between Ke Jie and Tuo Jiaxi in ninth place. This is why Shi Yue has seemed unassailable while the rest of the top ten has been fluctuating widely month by month. This month no one moved into or out of the top ten as a whole. January seems a very quiet month for Chinese pros. If we look down to the bottom of the list we see that most people show no change at all in their rating points. Indeed, in the entire list on Qipai, 310 out of 362 pros (86%) have no rating change in January. Here are the same 150 pros with their change since last January. |

Using the ratings, is it possible to judge Chinese players' longevity at the top? How long have the rating system been in place? I can think of two ways to measure longevity, repetitive title holding, and length of time in a high level in the ratings. In Japan there is no rating system but there have been long times of holding titles, like Cho Chikun's consecutive years holding the Honinbo title, and the Chikurin era in the Meijin title. |

I don't follow the Chinese go scene at all and almost all of the names on that list mean nothing to me. I did notice Rui and Nei. Are they the only ones from a generation ago who are still playing? |

Are they the only ones from a generation ago who are still playing? Rui is probably the only one in her generation who still actively plays. By that I mean participating tournaments regularly and having reasonably good results. |

According to Sensei's the ratings have been published since 1995. However, I do not know of any site that includes all the older ratings. |

Ke Jie's rise since December is noise, but his climb from last January is very impressive. Keep it up lad! Keep learning and winning. Make people stop comparing you with your contemporaries and start linking you to the all-time greats. |

What's the record for the longest time holding the number one placement (in china) ? Out of six months, what was Shi 9p's peak rating difference between second place? |

The old ratings are scattered around the Internet. I am pretty sure that I can collect them all. It is just a not-so-easy job to put them in a database. An interesting data mining project. Anyone interested? I can help collect the raw data and I can provide hosting to the final outcome. |

I'd be willing to give it a shot. I've been looking for a smallish development project to keep my skills sharp, and transforming text data into a database is an area where I've got some experience. Feel free to send me a pm to start organizing the next steps. |

Do you already have the names in a database, Mace? |
