Hello everyone, in my database nine of the ten games of the Kamakura Jubango (Go Seigen vs. Kitani Minoru) are included. Game 5 is either missing or not marked as Game 5. However, the following game played by Go and Kitani in 1940 is included: Could someone tell me if this is Game 5 of the Kamakura Jubango? If it is, what is the exact date? Another general question about the Jubango: How much thinking time did they have?

Yes, it's game 5. Played on 4,5,6 August 1940 (13 hours each, Go used 9:38, Kitani 12:51) according to John Fairbairn's excellent book on the match (he doesn't like to call it a jubango). |

Quote: Kamakura Jubango (Go Seigen vs. Kitani Minoru) Hi Tomoe, Random factoid: in November 2011, I was in a tour of Japan, and we visited Kamakura -- I don't remember if we actually dropped by the exact Jubango venue, but we might have. ![]() Unfortunately, I didn't know about this until after the trip was over, so I didn't pay attention on location. ![]() |

During the Nihon Kiin Summer Camp, they took us to a few of the spots in Kamakura where the games were played but couldn't actually take us into any of the buildings where they happened. The best you can do is point out a ways, and there are no signs or information about the games taking place there. |

Thanks for you replies ![]() I'm also considering taking part in the Nihon Ki-in Summer School one day when I'm a little stronger. But I guess they probably won't visit Kamakura every year... |

Yeah, I don't see it on the 2015 trip. If you ask the overseas director for Nihon Kiin, he should be able to help you find the right spots to go to on a map. |
