I made an endgame analysis of the only game between Fan & Alphago that was played out to the end. It starts at 146 and ends at 250. My overall impression of the endgame: Of all the important areas identified at 146, White only got 1 gote and its follow-up. Black got the other big gote at but more importantly Black got all the sente moves: (...) To my surprise, it seems that Fan Hui played a much better endgame than Alphago, while one would expect that the closer you get to the end, the better the evaluation system of the algorithm would be. Of course, it might simply maximize the probability of winning, even if by a small margin, rather than maximizing the win. Also, while I don't know if Kim Myungwan meant this part of the game when he said that Alphago doesn't know the value of sente, this endgame analysis certainly supports the idea. |

Some results of ManyFaces' analysis of game 1 (just to give an idea) ... From move 160 to 210 White loses about 20 points of territory (very likely in the centre), according to MFGo's assessment. this made me realize one thing, AlphaGo destroys the barrier between Professionals subforum and Computer Go subforum. Because AlphaGo plays at professional level and against the real pro in the even game, all of its games become 'professional games' by themselves |

AlphaGo is a tool not a person with a pro status. If AlphaGo will be granted pro status (which is highly unlikely as such thing didn't happen in chess or other games so would it in go?) then we can have AlphaGo topics here (but I hope it will not happen). |

AlphaGo is about to challenge a pro and other threads about that are in this subforum. It seems a good idea to have everything in the same place. |

It's possible that AlphaGo will not gain professional status, but will join in professional tournament. Demis Hassabis said (after being ask by Korean press) that he's not interest in getting professional dan for AlphaGo but he'll ask permission from Go federation to let AlphaGo join professional tournament |
