The more mature members of this forum, brought up on Ishi Press books, may like to know that Nagahara Yoshiaki has just retired at age 82. He gets the usual bump up to 8-dan, which is somewhat better than a retirement clock. |

He is the author of "Strategic concepts of go". I read it a lot of time ago, it was the first time I read about "aji", "kikashi", and some other weird concepts. It belonged to my first club, so I can't read it again. But I remember it was very useful. He wrote other books, but I don't remember or I didn't read them. |

His other books in English are the Ishi Press (also Kiseido?) books Basic Techniques of Go by Haruyama and Nagahara, and volume 7 in the Elementary Go Series, Handicap Go by Nagahara and Bozulich. |

I still have a copy of 'Basic Techniques of Go' on my shelf. It is water stained and worn, but still holding together. I've been through it cover to cover several times. I wish him well in his retirement. |
