I have a question regarding a recent game of mine where my opponent played a surprising move and I wasn't sure how to answer.

Next w played 1 which I don't know about.

The cut felt natural and the following sequence emerged.

I analyzed this for a while but couldn't find a better variation. Living in the corner is bad for black and there seems to be no way to capture either of whites stones. Blacks shape is a bit weird, maybe 8 should be somewhere else (a,b for example)?
On the plus side, this sequence made white's original pincer a very slow move and allowed me to make a shimari in the upper left. Is that enough for black?
One more variation: Blocking seems to be unsatisfactory, because after W3 the descent at a has no good corner follow-up except for some endgame (so w can ignore and take 6 for himself) and the following sequence favors white because of the 3-4 exchange.
