What's the refutation to this sequence? I'm interested why, in this variation, stretching once and jumping instead of twice is the proper way. Attachment: Capture.PNG [ 8.13 KiB | Viewed 5096 times ] |

Hi Jujube, Quick search: the extend again (to R14, instead of R13 jump) is not unheard of: about 25% (37 out of 144 pro games) with this local shape. But the immediate ![]() |

Black just captures the cutting stone and White will lose the fight in the corner. Black connects at 4 below and is ahead 4 liberties to 3. |

I wouldn't say things as strongly as 'refutation' or 'proper': like ez4u showed black can capture both stones, but white might atari on top qnd/or use the 3-3 attachment to make shape and then keep fighting on the outside now the group is stronger. To make white's tesuji at 3-3 easier to resist black can push an extra time before jumping, but the downside is you push from behind and make white stronger. Both are plausible, depending on surroundings. |
