Post subject: | Two space high shimari |
Recently, I've seen one or two shinfuseki era games that have this enclosure: I've been playing with it a little bit in some of my recent games, but none of my opponents have really tried to do anything against it, so I don't feel like I'm getting a good sense of its virtues and drawbacks. In addition, because it's a rarer move, it's hard to find a lot of information about it (the sensei's page is pretty scant, for example). Does anyone have a lot of experience with using this enclosure effectively, or know of some commented games that discuss it that I could look at? |

Did you see this page on SL? http://senseis.xmp.net/?LargeHighShimari It has a lot of ideas for how White can play against this shimari and also what the strategic issues are. Basically Black might play this shimari when he has a high, strong position in the lower left corner (relative to the position in the OP's diagram) or ,as in this game, the upper right corner: There are other ways for Black to enclose the lower right corner in this game but if he wants to aim for a moyo on the right side this may be the best way. Other moves on the right side may be too close to Black's strong position in the upper right. This two space high enclosure is very flexible, with possibilities for a large territory in the lower right corner, developing a moyo on the right side, and extending on the lower side. |
