Howdy all,

Does anyone here have an attractive eye catching poster for a GO Club that they might be willing to share? Or any great ideas for one?

Thanks!

My university's club is a Go and Chess Club, so we don't make too many Go exclusive flyers, but here's one I made. It shows the various names of go with the purpose of promoting the game in the International Center on campus.

The picture is public domain (the one from the top of the Wikipedia article) and I made the rest of the flyer myself. For copyright purposes I say that you or anyone else may use and modify and do whatever you want with this flyer to promote go and go clubs.

Sadly, the best flyer I've made for the club is our "Long Live the King" flyer promoting chess, shogi, and xiangqi. I'll have to make another go flyer soon...

( "more over 2000 years ago" probably should be either "more than 2000 years ago" or "over 2000 years ago" :) )

Thank you for sharing the flyer! I will be posting the one I made soon as well. I also used the wikepedia picture. I am working on 3-4. Different fliers to catch different people. I think the intro on yours with the different languages was rather hip. I may use it, as well. : ) I also liked your quote a few moments to learn a lifetime to master.

By the way Long live the King is a great line!

Thanks again.

Some time ago I made a few posters, this is one of them:
http://flic.kr/p/hRBi1W

Feel free to use it. Maybe it is not filled with useful data but it shows a board in a nice way I think.
The rest of the posters are in Polish, but maybe I can remake them for English.

I used Phoster app and iGoban+.

Here is our latest poster: Please feel free to use it after sending me $25.00 dollars cash in unmarked bills.

Or better how about 1 million dollars. Yeah baby!

Just remember the basic rules of poster/flyer design:

1) Visual first. You want to gain attention at a glance (<1 second) not after perusal.
2) Stay as text-light as possible. Again, <1 sec. to get attention. Once you have that, you've go the viewer for about 10 more seconds. Make them count.
3) Don't forget easy contact info. Consider tear-aways or something like that so people can easily take that info with them.

Good luck!

This is the front of the flyer we used for our last course (cursus is Dutch for course)

Image

The back then has a quote by Lasker, basic info on what go is, and specifics about the course.

EDIT:

Also, we used the same image to print a poster, and then we used a nice trick, which I will illustrate here:

Image

The dashed line in this image illustrates where we would make a cut in the poster. Then we would tape a piece of paper to the back of the poster, with tape along all edges in such a way that it created a pocket. As the image shows, we would use the pocket to hold flyers, which had a red "10% discount" circle to attract extra attention.

So here the poster attracts the attention (visual first, with little text, as BaghwanB also suggests) and those whose interest is piqued can take a flyer and read more.

We would put these up in libraries, bookshops, bars and university buildings.

Anyway, if you want to use it just shoot me a message, I can send you PSD files which have everything in layers. The font used is called "Good Times" and is free (or you can use another font, of course).

Glancing at it casually, I would assume Herman's poster is an invitation to a Star Trek convention of sorts.
I was surprised to see "16/09/2010" instead of "Stardate 20100916".

Good points thanks for sharing. We include some club cards by the poster. I am working on about 3 for different eye appeal.

I like the clean very modern look. Thank you for sharing, the more I see the more ideas I get. I think the AGA needs some of these excellent fliers that clubs could download and use easily.

Thank uou again!

 too true, I thought it did look Star Trek like. But I have noted a number of players like Star Trek, might be a very effective advertisement.

Here is a sample poster I did for the club. Our Club business cards are located in the Bowl... Yes it is a bit rough but it was eye catching. I bought some felt circles that are used for furniture for future posters. It will give the stones an upraised look.

I realize this thread is old but I thought I'd add a shot of the posters I just finished. The kids are students of the high school I work and the woman is my wife. I don't own the rights to some of the things in the background but thought I'd share regardless. I might be able to do some changes to get it completely free use if there's enough interest. All in photoshop with a single PSD.

I love those posters, Bahkana, and it would indeed be very nice to have them totally “free” of any copyright issues. Count me in for “interest” :-)

I assume “all in photoshop” means that you have everything nicely separated in layers so that everybody pshop-savvy could adapt it to their own local needs … ? Anyway — really nice work!

Greetings, Tom
