Inspired by a different thread, I was a little curious about GoGod. Its website lists a number of items available on the GoGod cd. If there were one feature that people would select to be the best part of the cd, what would it be? The game database? |

Yes, the 60,000 games are quite a resource. The articles are interesting, but the games are really worth having if you ever want to look up a certain player's games, or just play through some games at random. |

It's not really for me to say, of course, but we don't claim divinity and the proper name is GoGoD - Games of Go on Disk. That will tell you that the games database is the core of the CD. Much of the html or text data (e.g. the biographies and tournament data) is also there to support the games. For non-database stuff, of course, we now have the Slate & Shell books "From the GoGoD archives" as well. For those who like to track these things, I've just sent the copy of the latest, Shusai's Retirement Game*, to Bill Cobb. Not sure when it will appear but he seems to work at lightning pace. I just had lunch with John Power today and you may also like to know he is still hard at work on the new Joseki Dictionary. He likes the large format of my Slate & Shell books and so will use a similar one. This means he can get it down to two volumes instead of three. So that's the Christmas presents taken care of ![]() * Yes, it has an appendix discussing the many quirks of the Master of Go translation. As usual for me, it has a long historical introduction with a very detailed commentary. |

The main thing I use GoGoD for is searching the database with kombilo. I can say it has really changed the way I think about fuseki. You can search for a particular position (or just a side or a corner) and see what the most common moves in that situation are. |

I can't really explain that any better ![]() |

I am a small board go fan and so have only a limited use of the Database. And i buy it for all the articles about go. And even for this small selection i think it is worth it. But am I the only one? ![]() |

I think that page size will work well for a joseki dictionary, with more information visible on each two-page spread. Is he doing that for Kiseido or for Slate & Shell? |
