SmartGo for Windows Version 3.1.7 (2019-10-10) https://www.smartgo.com/windows.html Update to newest GoGoD collection of 105,323 games. Leela Zero works with SmartGo command line options: leelaz --gtp --threads 4 --noponder -w Networkfile.txt but KataGo does not work. can be configured KataGo? |

I can't get KataGo working, and I can't get Leela working either. Any tips? Can you screenshot the add GTP part of SmartGo? Where is your network placed, in the networks folder? Did you run autogtp.exe beforehand? Did you unpack the .gz file? |

for some reason I can’t connect both engines at once (KataGo & Leela Zero). after connecting the second, the first stops working. but for example KataGo and GnuGo work together |

Not working for me! ![]() Attachment: Capture.PNG [ 29.27 KiB | Viewed 16114 times ] What version of Leela Zero are you using? I have put Networkfile.txt in networks folder and in the root leelaz folder but it gives me the same response. |

It does yes. I'm on 0.17 too. Attachment: Capture.PNG [ 57.13 KiB | Viewed 16086 times ] I wonder if SmartGo caches anything that's preventing recognising Leela as a valid program from my previous failed attempts? Oh and, thanks for helping out ![]() |

I think there is some kind of glitch in SmartGo. try options - reset all settings |

I doubt that this will help, but for certain reasons I do not install any go-programs on the disk c: |

Well, I'll leave now to see what SmartGo can actually do with Leela so, I might still be disappointed ![]() Thanks for your help! You are a shining example of lifein19x19 problem-solving. |

Have you tried running KataGo on its own yet? Just in the command line directly, using the "benchmark" command, like: "katago.exe benchmark -model YOUR_MODEL_FILE.txt.gz -config YOUR_GTP_CONFIG_FILE.cfg" (run tuning and benchmark) "katago.exe gtp -model YOUR_MODEL_FILE.txt.gz -config YOUR_GTP_CONFIG_FILE.cfg" (run gtp) What output does it produce? Running directly is always the first thing you should do when it seems things haven't worked - easier to see error messages when there's nothing between you in the bot hiding the possible errors. |

Yep, katago works fine in cmd and in Lizzie too. I'd prefer to use katago but there's another post on lifein19x19 from someone (Bonobo? I forget) that also can get SmartGo for Windows working with Lizzie but not with Katago. So I don't think it's anything your end. |

Weird. Edit: Hmmm, in the above screenshots, is it really supposed to be the case that "command line options" also includes the executable name too? I thought command line options normally means the options that you are passing TO the executable. So, like: "katago.exe gtp -config FOO -model BAR" would have the executable be "katago.exe" and the command line options be "gtp -config FOO -model BAR". |

Yes, apparently this is a quirk of SmartGo. I have seen the same Q&A on the Baduk subreddit before. In fact it doesn't need to be the exe name. You could say potatoes gtp etc etc with the same effect. |

Jujube I may have found a reason why KataGo does not work. a network of 20 blocks does not work, but 10 blocks work! checked several times. check if it will work for you. EDIT 15 blocks does not work either. model.txt.gz also works, but only 10 blocks |

it turned out to be even more confusing g104 10 block s1.10G: katago 1.3 - OK, katago 1.3.2 - not working, katago 1.3.1 - OK g170 10 block s1.97G: katago 1.3 - not working, katago 1.3.2 - OK, katago 1.3.1 - OK g170e 10 block s1.14G: katago 1.3 - not working, katago 1.3.2 - OK, katago 1.3.1 - OK apparently, before launch, you need to flip a coin ![]() |

When KataGo encounters a neural net that is of a different size than it has encountered before, it will need to re-tune the first time it sees that size. Different versions of the code (1.3, 1.3.1, 1.3.2) may not always be able to share this tuning, so each one separately does it. The re-tuning can take a minute or two - and during that time, KataGo will output messages that make it obvious that it is computing and tuning and working. But many GUIs are terrible at displaying those messages to the user, so it may look like it just hangs and doesn't load, if you aren't patient enough to wait out the minutes. But it only needs to do this once, so long as it is allowed to finish and succeed. I know Jujube has reported that their issue is with running it in SmartGo specifically and that the command line works, so really maybe it has something to do with SmartGo, but how about for you? Can you try running those not working combinations directly in the command line too, so you can see if it is tuning? |

And wrote: Jujube I may have found a reason why KataGo does not work. a network of 20 blocks does not work, but 10 blocks work! First thing that comes to mind is that the smaller network starts up quicker, and SmartGo gives up if it has to wait too long? (I don't use SmartGo myself so am unable to test this theory.) At this point I'm wondering if someone should ping Anders and get him to look at this thread. |
