My two years old has taken an interest in my go set. Not in go itself (I haven't got past the first rules "Go stones are not edible" and "Go stones should be either on the board or in the bowls".). He likes most things we do and wants to imitate his parents as is usual at his age, and he enjoys the sound and feel of the stones, I think. It's cute, but it's a bother to let him play with my set, even though it's more or less unbreakable, because he might try to swallow one of the stones or just drop the whole bowl on the floor.

So I'm wondering. Are there small sets for young children, with big light stones and small boards, that I could give him?

I imagine you might like a set like the one Yukari Umezawa (now Yoshihara) used in the short video lessons at the end of Hikaru no Go for the first few episodes.

Don't know where you could buy such a set, but you could make something similar perhaps. Maybe using large bottle caps.

Yes, I'm considering making something myself.

But if there's something nice, maybe in asian shops, similar to this mini-shogi set, I'd definitely be interested to buy it:

With my three year old (who is long past trying to eat everything smaller than her head) I just let her play with my usual set and she makes flowers and similar patterns. I've seen nice multicoloured stone sets but nothing specifically 2-3 year old aimed online.

I just got the large version of that mini-shogi set. :)

I think the closest thing would be Yonro no Go. (4x4 go)

Have you heard about Wonder Go? It's especially for kids, the pieces open so you can hide treats and prizes in them.

There is also a new 7x7 set aimed at small children on sale in Japan:

Edit:
Google search "ななろのご" for better images. The 'stones' have pictures of horses on them and there is a carrot on each intersection.
