So I've been looking for awhile now without much success, so I figured I would ask here... is it possible to buy glass Go boards? I'm not much of a fan of the wood look, and glass I think would more nicely match my decor, but well I've come across some examples of glass boards, they generally seemed custom made. Do they actually sell glass boards anywhere? Or is one pretty much required to make their own?

What's the point of Go if you can't SLAM the stones?

A glass board? That's a rather silly idea... I'm not the worst person in the world though, so I'll tell you what you should do instead: use glass stones! The Japanese have been using glass stones for ages.

Of course, you should then fill these glasses with booze - you drink the stones you capture . Tip: this works best on 19x19 (9x9 is for dweebs).

Have fun!

How about a glass board with wooden stones? :blackeye:

:grumpy: Can you all be a bit serious :grumpy:

Questions over transparent Go boards have been asked before:

Think one of the problems will be sliding stones (glass is so much more slippery than wood)

Good luck and let us how you are going on :salute:

Just for reference, the attached photo is the glass chess set
that seems to go on sale every winter holiday,
and it is absolutely unplayable: not only can you not distinguish
between the Black and White pieces, but you cannot even
distinguish pieces of the SAME color! :)
It may have looked cool as a decoration (e.g. in the X-Men movie),
but it is completely unusable as a chess set.

I agree completely. I don't understand why people buy glass chess sets -- or even really intricate sets for that matter -- because I have a terrible time distinguishing the pieces. Nothing good can from looking at a game and just seeing a giant wall of glass looking back.

I'm sure you have seen those checkers boards in which the pieces are shot glasses. The idea is that you put a dark liquor in on set and a clear one in the other and you have to drink anything you capture. If you are going to use glass you should probably do so with shot glasses for stones. At least when you capture a large group you will have reason to forget that the board is glass.

Actually, I was thinking 50 might be enough. By that time one player might have had to resign through lack of ability to continue.

Thanks Herman! It doesn't look as nice from this side. I'd do it with matte glass (like one of the sets in glass chess sets, not transparent), with transparent board lines (they would show the black from the ground).
