Hi I've saw now in several sites cheeywood floor gobans, 10 cms thick (the board) and 25 cm (board + legs). Did anybody buy it? How is the quality? the sound? Is worthy? or should I wait to get the chance for buying one better in Korea, Japan or China itself? Dkzn |

like this? http://www.mastersgames.com/cat/board/go-tables.htm I wouldn't get it myself. Veneer is not a sign of quality! |

I do agree on that. Veneer means they couldn't be bothered with staining the wood, much less painting the lines. ![]() |

No, veneer means they couldn't be bothered with using good wood. You can see the difference in price. |

Regarding the bamboo floor board on ebay 1. In general, I find bamboo boards a bit stiff compared with many other woods normally used for go boards. 2. A floor board is usually made from one large piece of wood and has a pyramid cut at the bottom so it makes a pleasant sound when the stones are struck against the board. I doubt that a floor board made with many different pieces of loose bamboo strips glued together will give you the same effect. There is a post on my blog called "Goban and Shogiban - Creating Game Equipment" which might give you a few ideas as to what to look for when you plan to buy a nice goban. |

Tchan001 thanks for the awesome reference material! and I must say that somehow having a floor goban with legs is a kind of crown jewel for a Go Player... it's a different thing. |
