Post subject:  Floor goban leg sizes

Building my own goban and I need to find appropriately sized feet.

Can anyone measure some Goban feet and tell me:
* Height
* Diameter (or width)
* Whether or not the feet protrude any amount from the "sides" of the board? e.g.

Code:
|----------------|        |---------------|
|                |   vs   |               |
|----------------|        |---------------|

I don't think there are standard sizes for legs. For example, generally legs on katsura boards are narrower than legs on spruce or kaya boards. The legs are definitely set in from the edges. The length is somewhere around 11 to 14 cm. Here are some boards from Kuroki Goishi Ten. You can look at the different angle shots to get an idea of the layout and maybe you could infer the measurements from complarisons with the width and thickness of the boards.

P.S. In the book The Go Player's Almanac in an article on go equipment by John Fairbairn it is pointed out that the legs should be in proportion to the thickness of the board but a typical size (length) would be around 12cm.

Here are a few dimensions from my KGT kaya floor board.

Total height of board with legs - 12.4"

Projection from bottom of board - 4.68" from bottom of board. (They are slightly inset into the bottom of the board, so maybe add 1/8 or so if you plan to inset the legs.)

Setback from endgrain (players side) of board - 1"

Setback from side of board - .97" (note there is plenty of room between the legs to put the bowl (< size 36 stones) without its lid under the edge of the board.)

Note: the following two dimensions are different because of the 8-sided fruit-shape of the legs.

Width of leg as viewed by player - 3.67"

Width of leg at (approximately) 19 degrees to board (point to point) - 3.94"

Max width of fruit-shape flutes 1.54"

Size of square mortice/tenon - .972"

Length of tenon - 1.125"

Approximate distance between legs from players side - 7.3"

Approximate distance between legs from side of board - 8.625"
