Post subject:  3 Chinese-language Go books - £5 each [EDIT: ALL GONE NOW]

Hi people. I am adding three more books to my '40-book' go book sale. They are all in Chinese language and I don't have the time to work out the translation. If anyone can translate the front cover, I'd be grateful! :)

I don't have the faintest clue how much they are worth, but I'm letting them go for £5 each.

For the details of how to buy etc, please see my other thread: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=13740

[EDIT: I forgot to state their condition. The covers have a little shelf wear, but the contents have no notes, no underlining and no highlighting. All pages present with strong binding. Apart from the small amount of shelf wear, they look unread. -David]

I have the complete series so I can add a few comments.

These are vol. 1 (beginner to 1-dan), 2 (1-dan to 3-dan) and 4 (6-dan and above) of a set of 4 volumes.

Vol. 1 and 2 are similar in content and offer life and death, tesuji, joseki, yose, opening and middle game problems.
Vol. 3 (missing here) also consists of problems but they are more of the whole board, half board type. My feeling is that they take you out of the well-trodden path of vol. 1-2.
Vol. 4 is only made of pros games, with each game having a few whole board problems (taken from the game) attached. Games are ancient Chinese, ancient Japanese, modern Chinese, modern Japanese and modern Korean ones.

On the whole, I really like these books and often come back to them. Vol. 1-2 are great for reading practice, basic principles and knowledge. The games in vol. 4 I generally find interesting and well chosen. Note also that vol. 1 starts more at 10k-5k than beginner's level.

EDIT. Fixed mistake in volume 2's level.

Dear Shenoute. Thank you for that really detailed review! It is much appreciated! :)

Especially useful to know the strengths that the books are aimed at.

Best wishes. David

Ps: Just a small thing ... I think the second volumne must be vol 3, not vol 2 (based on your translations)?

Sorry, there is a mistake in my first post. These are indeed volume 1, 2 and 4. In my first post
Quote:

should have been
