This year's Go Congress at William and Mary University in Williamsburg was a lot of fun. - 2018 built on the technology advancements made by others (Andrew Jackson, etc.) in earlier years. We got a text message of who our opponent was and at what board 30 minutes before start time. The AGA bought a bunch of nice big flat screen monitors to show videos and scheduling that will be used at future congresses. - There was a Senior's tournament, available to people over 55. Some of the seniors over 70 complained there should be a "super seniors" category for them. ![]() - "Baum prizes" - named after the late Leonard Baum (http://www.usgo.org/news/2018/06/in-memoriam-leonard-baum/) - were instituted that rewarded youngsters and oldsters (at least 40 year age difference) for playing each other. One of my US Open opponents asked me to sign her Baum slip. I had to inform her that while I look ancient in her eyes, I am only about 30 years older than she is. - I didn't follow the US Open Masters tournament that closely, but I believe 9Ps Ding Wei and Ahn Dalhoon were defeated by some of our home-grown players. - 2019 Congress is officially in Madison, Wisconsin (July 13-20, a little earlier than usual). Madison is to the Midwest what Austin is to Texas. So yippee. - 2020 Congress is unofficially somewhere in Colorado. Again, yippee. |

For years I have believed that the AGA and the European Go Federation should work together to stagger their meetings so that players could attend both. |

I suspect time and/or money are not that plentiful for most people. That said, I saw the Latin American Congress is being held in October (in Guatemala). Might be nice to attend - spaced far out from the others, and can support growth of Go in Latin America. |
