Japanese rules, 0.5 point komi, Marcus takes black with 6 stone handicap in free placement. Good game!

Ok, here we go! I look forward to this. Let's see ... how does this look?
Free placement is not something I'm used to. I could just take some simple placements, but let's get creative, eh? I respect lovelove's skill and rank, so I want to see how he handles these particular shapes. I'm well known for overthinking and tryig to be clever, though. Let's see if I can play nice, simple, basic moves. |

@Marcus + obs Why put a stone on E3 and not D3 to make a shimari? Interesting placement indeed! |

This is an interesting corner sequence in itself. Then I removed the White stone. Without some outside aji, White will definitely get sealed in if lovelove tries to jump into the corner immediately, giving me some nice outside aji. I considered using D6 instead of C6, too. Maybe some other time. |

I'll never play this move in a even game, but now I need to make something happen. Kinda trick move ![]() |

Interesting. His first move immediately pushes buttons I don't know how best to answer. ![]() I promised myself that I'd try to play basic moves that made sense instead of trying to be clever. I didn't realize how hard that would be for me. My first instinct was to try and keep both my stones in this corner "connected" with C4. They aren't really connected though, and I shouldn't try to force them to be. If I try to force what I want, lovelove gets to complicate things. Keeping it simple, I expect something more along the lines of the following:
From there, it depends on what he wants to do. I think this is a good, simple plan. |

I first thought about tenuki, but then black can have a very think position by playing E5. I will interrupt black making a framework, with a light haengma. |

This is the shape point, right? |

Connection at E5 is too heavy now. If black plays E5, I will tenuki again. |

The lower left seems like it could be considered a variant of a 5-3, keima approach, one space low pincer, only missing the original stone.

Nothing to see here. I have to make sure, though, that White doesn't surround too big a chunk of the center. |

At one point I knew a few joseki from studying (though I admit my studying is very poor). From that study time so long ago, I believe the more typical response would have been at S15. White gets to spread his stones out a little more in that set of variations, though. I want White to crowd his stones together wherever possible. The result I'd like:
Q9 works well to reduce the potential of the white wall, I think, and it has support from R6 so it's not as weak as it could be. Another possibility:
I expect that White would then try to make some space with a play around 'a'. |

I have no time playing the UR corner joseki. Trying to mix up the stones so there can naturally be a big fight. |

Just keeping my stones strong. There will eventually be some big fights. The less aji I have in my positions for lovelove to exploit, the better. |

Points for him, points for me. Also, R3 is still open for a 3-3 invasion later. |

Obs: It's a very big point, but as White is likely to approach from the top side and Black already has a wall on the lower side, I'd be much more inclined to play E5 and give White a bit of long term grief in that corner. Increasing Black's strength in that area should also increase options from White approaching the top left. |
