Yay taco, you managed to make a diagram! /o/ I'm tacos biggest rival, moyoaji, but he hasn't beaten me yet...thought we usually(except that trolly time with 9 handis) played even :<. My awesome approach to the corner, idk what taco will do but maybe he will panic about his inability to copy things and play something strange. :p But probably it will go like normal and boring play usually goes:
Most boring var that seems too good for me, but I like it because this is the only way I can imagine things will go. :b |

I'm a pretty big fan of the pincer, thought it might be good for territory. my stone on the bottom left looks good with it x3 Apples will probably do something complicated because she doesnt know too many josekis ![]()

taco is spoiling my plan! I bet he thinks that if he has handis he can go and get territory. :< It is horrible! But I know this awesome joseki though where I remember the first move.
\o/ But it still leaves him with more corners than me. Though he fights worse, so I could get away with this. >:) I shall complicate stuff and maybe will get better result. ...And later look up josekis. Or 6 could be at a side. Who knows. And then we will fight to someones death :3. Preferably tacos stones. |

Ha! I've played this variation with gnugo at least 200 times! I'll just expand both ways |

I think that black already has an advantage from the beginning, and getting into a complicated fight may well lead to losing all of it. While keeping things simple and safe makes white worry, and it is white then who should be doing something out of ordinary.but now that i have handi, if i can get into a complicated fight and somehow win, id have an advantage My first kibitz here ![]() |

I don't think this is a very good plan overall. Black will certainly be split and white can live in the corner like this:
From here white is already alive in the corner and black is split and undercut. Sure, white is close to being surrounded in the center, but he only has 1 group to worry about. Even with the influence of the handicap stones I don't think this is a good fight for black. If white doesn't want to fight for some reason, he can give up the corner and take the outside, but I think he wants to fight here.

I though your reply was a mistake, taco, but no, after watching josekipedia, turns out that it can be used. D: Though I can't know if you knew it when you played that. :b
This forum playing game is scary, it makes me over think things and then pretend this game was never started. And maybe handis have to do something with that too. And tacos move that wasn't a real mistake. How am I ever going to get points! But still I hope it will be fun for a while. Unless taco forgot about this game already. :3 |

This was a bit strange, why did he atari right away? Now I can capture stones either on one side or other one. ![]() Though I will be split it's not too bad anyway because center is so free. \o\

Getting cut of at the center is bad. Maybe i shouldn't do this. But I'd hate to give up corner. |

Taking the corner here is probably what I wouldn't do as white. White is left with a floating group while he lives small in the corner. |

This position reminds me of a classic trick play:
People get tricked when they try to save the cutting stones:
After the last white play, yes, white lives with the cutting stones. But the marked white stones are floating. White has just a couple of points, and has lost out. The correct response to this trick play is to be willing to give up the cutting stones:
Black captures a couple of stones, but white made a good position. The current game reminds me of this trick play, so I feel black did better locally. |
