Hey there. After reading so much in this forum, I decided to post a game of my own (I was White). I played it after a week of being sick and during the game I didn't believe for a second, that I would win - but I did, so my opponent must have made some mistakes, too. So I would appreciate if anyone could comment on the game.

i am sorry about sounding mean but..
how about you tell me what you think was a mistake?
then we will explain in detail.

i my opinion over 90% of moves i see is a mistake so it is very hard to comment.
instead of posting whole game concentrate on one phase of the game and ask question.
this way you can learn more and faster.
before you ask i want you to think about your move also.

i will give you first four questionable moves that i see.
:w8: is a mistake. although black didnt take advantage of your mistake.
:w12: is a mistake. you have to play O17 first.
:w16: should be P9 in my opinion.
:w18: is wrong. o3 or p4 seems correct. (it is very hard to answer because of your prior bad move :w16:)

it is very hard to criticize one move because of the whole sequence of move is twisted and awkward.
black player's move are not much better.

hope it helps.

First of all, thank you for your hints.

My English isn't that good, so my previous post may sound strange. I didn't want to say tht black made (specific) mistakes and want a comment on that. I jut wanted to say, that I felt very bad playing this, never imaging to win the game but in the end i won, so there should be some mistakes on Black's side, too.
Of course I'm mainly interessted in my mistakes and comments on them.

On what you commented, Magicwand:
8: How should I have played this?
12: I understand, why to play O17 first.
16, 18,... I don't have much experience with the three-point-innvasion, so I will try to internalise your hints.

Again, thank you.

Please don't take offence at this, but this game is played meaninglessly fast if you want to improve. I was going to write a few comments, until I checked the time you spent on the moves.

Minutes - Number of moves
1 - 22
2 - 21
3 - 25
4 - 23
5 - 21
6 - 16
7 - 14

That's between 2 and 3 seconds per move for the whole of the first 5 minutes, and only the 7th minute was slower as you were reading to see if there's anything left.

If I was to make comments, I'd spend the amount of time you spent on the entire game just writing comments and a few variations on just the opening.

If are spending less than an average of between 15 and 20 seconds on a move, it's probably not worth reviewing :)

Okay, then I will try to spend more time on my next games to make them valuable enough to be commented. Thank you anyway.

Try 20-25 minutes each or something, but, more importantly, 30 secs or greater byo-yomi rather than 10 secs. Then make sure most of your main time is gone before you complete the fuseki. I can't overemphasise how important it is to think very hard about which corner you take, which approach you make, which pincer you choose etc. I do a huge amount of my reading, often 30-40% of my entire game time unless there's a big complicated battle, in the first 40 moves of the game (that's only 20 moves for each player).

It's already been mentioned, but yeah, you're averaging 2.9 seconds per move before you get into byoyomi. People can spend more time commenting on this game than you spent playing it. Is that fair?

As Magicwand points out, in this case your opponent isn't punishing your mistakes well. A :w8:, for example you have to think whether black is really about to play there. (Think of the proverb: my opponent's move is my move.) In this case, it is natural to protect the cut, which :w8: doesn't do. But then instead of cutting, black plays a move :b9: that helps white. From a general feel, both players are following each other around the board a lot. Playing moves that help your opponent and failing to find tenuki are hard habits to break, and blitz makes them harder to break.

I don't mean to come down to hard on blitz. Some players wouldn't play at all if they didn't play blitz, and it can teach you a quite bit about where your first instincts are wrong and expose you to many game positions quickly. But blitz games you can review yourself outside of the heat of the moment and discover a lot. When I review my own blitz games, I look for psychological problems (literally, "what was I thinking?") and to prepare responses for unexpected opening variations that might occur in future games that are more serious. Deep analysis isn't usually worth it on those games, but without some reflection, they are just for fun and won't help you learn.
