I played my first 19x19 game in a little while today on IGS. I haven't used my IGS account since I made it 3 years ago, so it is fairly underranked. Nevertheless, my opponent today was very sharp and pushed me hard the entire game. I felt like I was in over my head through most of the game. I would very much appreciate any insight, especially into the more fighty parts of the game. I play White.

7... Not that big a deal. You get to look forward to K16 and R17 is still open later. 18... I would probably jump to F11. This stone is important as it splits two unsettled black groups, and needs to settle itself one day. 22... I like your game move. Now black has three unsettled groups. 30... My instinct is C9, and let black worry about how the entire left half of the board will settle. Prospects of attacking F3 should be at the forefront of your thoughts. 37... Just looks like a mistake. Why not D5? I find it hard to comment much after that. |

Hi, Just so you know, the IGS website will let you download an SGF of the game, and it will include time information, so you can see whether you played certain moves too quickly as well. I added some additional comments: |

Thanks for the comments! @loons About :B37: I probably played this really badly, but answering at D5 and then black following with B6 allows B11 to run away and escape, which puts W in a tough spot up there. No doubt about it though, my local result the way I played was horrible. @ Studying Thanks especially for that kill sequence. Default games on IGS are a little fast for my liking, so maybe that explains why I missed that. It certainly seems to be obvious not that I know what the problem was. |

I guess DJLLAP means something like this (white can still pull out, not sure what happens in subsequent fighting): But white can extend so get a bigger corner, but then black gets c8 sente so can capture one stone. But that's not a problem as white can still break out and gobble black's wall for a huge corner, and still outside aji: Or maybe white can just answer at the key point himself and laugh as black gave him a dead stone: |

Thanks Uberdude, that is exactly what I meant. And thanks for the additional variations. |
