Below are two games I played last week against members of my local Go club. I won both games, but since I am trying a new approach to my game I would like some expert advice. (And I would like to report that I used CGoban to create these SGFs :D )

In this one I won by about 20 points. I was nervous much of the time as my opponent was a dan-level (about 2D AGA) player and did his best to complicate things.

White 53 is at R3, not R4.

In this one my opponent chose to resign the game as he had an appointment to attend. He is 4-dan AGA and he would respond instantly to my moves, which of course made me rather nervous, so I had to think things out during play. Though the resignation was because my opponent had to go somewhere, he concluded that Black was too far ahead and that resignation would be better than playing on.

In both games I did something I previously failed to do. I would commit to winning by just 1 point rather than by 20, even if it meant being generous in allowing White to have territory, rather than doing my darnedest to kill White all over the board. Turns out it worked!

One quick top of the head comment.

In the second game I like :b6:. The wedge creates a weakness for White. However, Black did not follow up with :b10:. You gotta cut at N-05. Otherwise Black has simply strengthened White to no avail.

There is a saying that the threat is more powerful than its execution. But if you make a threat and do not follow through, your threats become impotent.
