;W[ln]TR[fn][gn][hn][in][jn][kn][mn][nr][ns]SQ[an][bn][cs]C[What just happened?
Black gained a little over 12 points, plus whatever he can make by extending along the left side, which isn't much.
N4 is basically, to put it bluntly, screwed. So we'll count it as dead. Though if you mess up, it might make life. White has made basically, 45 points, almost 4 times what black just made. In adddition, if black tries the fool hardy tactic of trying to make more territory along the side:]
;B[ck]
;W[ek]C[Now white has a lot of options: She can do something like this:

;W[qq]TR[cf][ci][ek][en]SQ[lj][qk]C[And now she has the whole bottom side. AND black's group is weak. But that's now what I want to show you.
I want to show you one thing in particular. Not only has white's territory increased but look at the marked stones:
there's a bit of ajii at D10, but we'll discuss that later.
For now, the point is: What happen's if there is a white stones around M10?
Or what happen's if White plays around R9?
You don't get territory, rather, you get INFLUENCE. And with this influence, you can attack weak groups like R6 or M4, or even P4, and while black is busy living, or making puny territory along the side, you are speeding ahead, forcing him to make yet another abortive invasion.
It's a powerful way to play.
But how do you do this?
The key lies in The marked stones.
You PUSH the weak groups toward's the marked stones, which are strong. Which brings me back to the ajii at D10.
What happen's at D10, if black plays there?]
;B[dj]C[Now white is split up into a strong group below, and a weak group on top. The whole tables are turned.
You see, the key to having good influence is to have strong shapes. And to have strong shapes, you need to keep them connected, and you need to keep them facing each other. When Black plays D10, he cut's C11 group off from the bottom, so their not onnected. Furthermore, his botom group is connected to the bottom. AND, his D10 stone is facing the D16 stone!
It get's really complicated.
So I would reccomment you practice. You're bound to lose a few games while learning these strategies and absorbing this information, but It's probably worth it.
Also, strong player's, please correct me on the points that I got wrong, because I know I'm not that strong either.]))

While she is on the run, black can extend downward's and approach D4.]

Also, there is the chance of getting some extra profit in the lower side: So white is happy.
A strong player would probably not concentrate his black stones so much. But you get the idea. It's an exaggeration to prove a point.]))
