Hello,

in this recent game I took my time especially in the beginning. Although I lost I don't see any mistakes, i.e. points where I could have played much better. Hence any pointers where I might have played better are much appreciated.

Cheers,
mic

How do you assess the position after 100 moves?

How do you assess it after 50 moves?

After 32 plays?

Where did Black really start to go wrong?

IMO, :b23: at C-17. Instead he should approach the White position with J-17. It is a dual purpose play, combining attack and defense.

In my opinion, you lost the game because you got two weak-ish groups. All the Moyo and a huge chunk of territory on the left White got due to these groups. You could have handled them better I think.
Another thing is that you played some very slow Gote moves, which didn't affect the overall situations.

No big mistakes, but lots of small places where you could have done better. Try playing more expansively, on a larger scale. Look for pushy moves which gain a little more than safe conservative moves. Change your signature from "Go is easy: don't play bad moves" to "Go is hard: play sharp moves" :)

21) Not bad, but leaves B a little low across the right side. Consider something grand like O15.
43) Submissive response, good exchange for W. This may be necessary, but you should not be happy, and you should look for something tougher. At least consider Q9 fight.
45) Nice shape, but does it help win the game? How about expanding around P13, before W can push you low on the side?
55) Submissive response, good exchange for W. This may be necessary, but you should not be happy, and you should look for something tougher. At least consider Q12 fight.
79) Why not push once more, then play around O6, to surround territory on a large scale?
105) Good, but could you do better at H18?
107) Good, but could you do better at O18?
121) Very small, lots of much larger moves available.
139) Very small, lots of much larger moves available.
149) Could you cut to get more here? Worth reading.
158) Was this not B sente for the last 50 moves?

There was a nice tesuji for B on the left side for much of the game:

Black has definetly a weak group at the bottom, but white's left side is getting to big. Hence, the following moves of black which lead to the creation of a second weak group. I think if I hadn't done the second invasion at all, i.e. only playing reduction moves, the game would have been lost.

While not completly secure, black's goal has somehow been reached. Honestly, did (and does) not look so bad.

Worse for black, since white gained additionally territory at the top.

Probably already in the fuseki. At move 32 black had to do some risky moves due to previous mistakes.

Cheers,
mic

I'd like to thank all reviewers for their helpful tips. While submitting the game for review I did not thought that I made so many mistakes, now I think a bit different about this particular game (and probably about my play in general).

The bad thing about go is that you have always more to learn, the good thing about go is that you can always learn more.

Cheers,
mic
