To show, that I'm at least partially successful with my training =D I think, I screwed up my top right corner, for a second I was afraid he would cut me apart. |

I'm presumably weaker, but the opening felt off to me. Black 7: This seems to be the wrong side to me. With the corner enclosure, I would have gone at R 12. But with the bottom 3-4 stone being low on this side, maybe it is time to defend down there. But definitely by move 20 all your corner enclosures have been cramped along their desired direction of play. You've more or less got 3 corners, so I'm not sure if you're worse off. But it certainly isn't "by the book". |

Numsgil You're right, I could have approach from top and take a little bit of an extension there, but that would probably lead to me getting Gote on the right side, because if White extends down the side, he can easily approach my 3*4 next, so I should defend and then he might take my bottom extension, too, making himself a nice extension from his Hoshi. I think I'm better off with the Ogeima enclosure, which is kind of safe as long White doesn't play R8 k43r Yeah, with move 39 I somehow flashbacked to a Taisha-variation from a Shusaku game. Of course the situation was completely different but I already clicked : D 'a' was the move I somehow flashbacked to, which was played later on by Shusaku. In the top right I think, I just should have extended to O17 in response to White's attachment. But well, although he took the corner very easy he put his right and top group in mortal danger, while mmy gorup was fine, so I was still satisfied. I must admit, I didn't read much anymore in the end, but I considered M2. It's just that I wouldn't have liked it, when White plays the diagonal attachment and pushes me on the second line. This would heavily reduce my corner, if I'm not mistaking. |

But it certainly isn't "by the book". This is a common misconception that overemphasizes the extension from a shimari. Making a shimari is a very big opening move, most often bigger than the extension that potentially follows. In the formation on the right side, I think that most professionals would play an approach to the lower right corner instead of the wedge. Usually that would be a low and far kakari to make a pincer more costly, I think. The way the game developed, White only established a fairly stable group on the right, but Black got two shimari and sente. |
