Got some interests to play and study go a bit in the new year after a long time away, thought I could make a thread there. I learned the game all by chinese materials so expecting quite bad usage of English go terms. Currently 2k at fox server. Played some games and asked a pro go teacher for advise. He suggested me to learn: - Go theory and whole board directions - Usual shapes of life&death - Usual Joseki - Common mistakes Also advised me not to play many fast games, not good for a beginner to build right intuition. I'm following the plan. Not expecting fast rank progression, Just learn them as fundamentals for a higher level game. Also, I do a few tsumegos every day online(101weiqi.com). It's super convenient and the contains most possible answers. But I feel it also creating an eager for me to try answer before read it all out. Considering to use a problem book instead. |

Learning L&D, a bit note: Study/Memorize a difficult shape: Carpenter's Square, W first Correct Answer is a ko. Some wrong result shapes: A. Black dead B. Black lives Some variations from memory. Hopefully no mistake.

A few progression Trying to setup Anki to study and revise Life & Death Problems, but still a long way before done. Haven't using a problem book. Don't feel not much improvement in my reading. Finished the theory part. Game style changed from a battle preferred to not too eager to start a fight. Played a bit more game than suggested, and become a Fox 1d now. |

Nice work keeping at it and improving. I used Anki for language study and it was very handy. I should go back to it. I saw a few Go study sets available online for Anki. I briefly checked them out but it was not for me. That might be because I prefer books. And when I do study Go I don't often feel like studying tsumego. Still, if you find a set that you like please share with us. |

I'm using Anki for memorize popular L&D shapes solutions. Many of them are a bit hard for me, but common in real game, so I just remember the result. I'm making the deck myself, around 20 cards every week. I suppose there will be about 100 cards in total. For reading practise, I bought this L&D book after previous post: https://www.amazon.com/%E5%9B%B4%E6%A3% ... 348&sr=8-6 Feel well with it. |

Don't have much motivation for practice last month (Playing Games). Still review added cards in anki (I have about 80 cards now, most L&D variations, but also some joseki or other knowledge i'd like to remember). Along with that, I also watch some go videos every day. One day in this week I got motivated and was playing go whole night, after over 10+ games, end up 2d in Fox server. A bit tired so I stop playing since then. |
