Thanks for the comments guys.

I played a couple of games at the uni go club again this week and am now officially on the ladder there. I was disturbed to find I played only 3 games since last Wednesday and can only take solace in the fact that come December I should be up to my eyes in free time to waste improving my game.

I still haven't done much puzzle-wise and thanks to my crazy set of lectures and deadlines this next month I will be lucky to get much improvement in either through puzzles or games.

This challenge just became challenging.

How are you enjoying over-the-board play? Much better than online, in my opinion.

It's hard work finding time to play when you have a busy life - I've added you to my buddy list on KGS, if I see you on there we can play, it will help get your figures up.

I think i am resigning to much and as a result probably when it isn't warranted. So I'm not going to resign any games from now on unless it is 100% I cannot claw it back.

I agree about the live play. There is something very pleasing about the aesthetics of the board, there is something slightly haphazard about the way the stones sit that feels freer than online but no less precise.

12kyu!

Albeit mostly a result of the fact that rank slowly rises over time if left unattended.

Some really slack play on my part. He managed to kill two big groups that I neglected because they seemed like they would be easy to make live. A few misreads later and the game as gone from a landslide in my favour to my opponent burying me under my dead stones.

Just my thoughts:

12: F4 looks safer/stronger
16: I prefer the other direction. It takes away most of what you'd like in the corner, but is huge on the left side. After that, E10 would make your scale quite large, though I'm not sure if E10 is bigger than something around P4.
18: Even as strong as you are locally, I'd hesitate to hane immediately. As black, I would counter with C2 and try to fight it.
24: Preventing the connection with E2 is big.
52: If you're going all-in with this invasion like you seem to be, saving those two stones is small. Better to take the jump you take next now, lest you get shut in and killed. In general, you did a great job invading and trying to live over here, aside from worrying about keeping R5 alive
86: G10 is much bigger right now, gote or not. Preventing C17 is also pretty major, but I think G10 wins biggest. It's also worth noting that black can cut off your stones, or at least break in, with H5 and then G4. Locally, defending the cut is probably bigger, though again, local is smaller.
124: It's a funny shape, but I think P1 might actually prevent this cut best.
126: Black just removed an eye from your bottom group. Probably best to defend it, probably with O2.
132: I THINK O2 still saves, from looking at it.
140: As you saw, not a threat. B13 might be the best you've got.

Strategically, you played great. Life or death and more games will help with the issues you had at the end. Good luck! You played a very strong game for your level, otherwise.

Thanks again Chew.

Here's another where I felt my reading let me down. I think tomorrow rather than playing I will be doing L&D puzzles.

I finished the year just on the 11k side of the 11/12k divide almost exactly 2 stones shy of my goal.

It was fun to work towards something but for the moment I am content just to try and improve my game in general and allow the rank to do as it please. When I do feel some focused effort is in order I'll do another of these threads in the mean time this one can die. Before that happens though I'd like to thank Chew again for the reviews he did both for their quality and their quantity. Cheers!

You're welcome, and thanks. =) It makes me really happy to know some of it helped. Lately I've been wanting to get in some more go, so hopefully I'll be getting in more reviews soon...
