Hello! I started playing go a few months ago, after learning it from a friend. I found it extremely entertaining, and found that it didn't take long until I could beat him easily (Probably not a very good experience for the poor guy). Afterwards, I started to try to find other people who play, but such an endeavor is futile in my area. Therefore, I have recently begun to play online. I find myself to be quite strong in the openings, but I just seem to fall apart later on in some games. I will try to fix that as I continue to play!

Welcome to the forum. What area are you in? There are a surprising number of clubs scattered around the US in places you wouldn't expect them.

In Stafford, Virginia. There is a very small club in a library near me and a larger one a bit farther away, but both of their meeting times conflict with my schedule.

Yeah... There are quite a few in the DC area, but that's probably a bit of a hike for you.

Welcome!

The several months after you first learn to play are especially fun, I think. If you play a bunch of games and get reviews from stronger players, you can often see huge jumps in your strength. Fun times.

I would encourage you to consider attending the Go Congress in August, which is in NYC this year. Right after I first learned to play, I thought I was "too weak" or too much of a beginner to go to the Congress, but this was a mistake on my part. The Congress is a great place for beginners. You'll find some opponents around your strength and learn a whole bunch. If you can't attend because you don't have the mean or the time, that's one thing. But don't decide not to go because you're too much of a beginner.
